When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

Pill effect: You're ok! One effect of the pill is to decrease the growth of lining tissue in the uterus. On occasion, it can become so thinned out that there will be no bleeding on a "period". This is ok on the pill. You've already done the important thing - getting a pregnancy test. If you continue using the pill you will probably get a light period at each three month period. No long term effect for you. ...Read more

See your doctor: You describe an anovulatory cycle. This is a cycle where the ovary fails to release an egg, thereby disrupting hormone levels. Your doctor can do an exam and run some tests to sort everything out. The fact that you have underlying causes increases the likelihood of anovulation. ...Read more

The history of PCOS: Raises a red flag? Did you need to use fertility medications to conceive (eg Clomiphene or injectables, letrozole)? You should see a reprooductive endocrinologist about this becuase its been >6mos. Also curious if you were on birth control aftr delivey. ...Read more

Time for consult: With ectopic or two and blocked tube or tubes, you need to see a fertility specialist to define your options. You may need to bypass bad tubes and do IVF to achieve pregnancy. Have not gotten my period 12-16 days late I am on the pill. Negative pregnancy test Sharp pains on the right when I stand up. I have endometriosis?
I would consider: Pregnancy test at least 1 week after your late period, if your period never came. The longer you wait the more sensitive the pregnancy test becomes. If you start having a regular period then it's unlikely that you are pregnant. Otherwise cannot really tell from the incomplete details given in your question. ...Read more
Urine or blood: Most common approaches to diagnosing pregnancy would be with a urine pregnancy test (over the counter or in a doctor's office), or a blood specimen pregnancy test (requires a blood draw and ordered by your doctor). Keep in mind that urine testing, which is the most common, can take up to 2 wks after a missed period to turn positive. ...Read more
Accurate: Urine pregnancy tests bought from a drugstore in the U.S. Are quite accurate. They give a reliable result, if done correctly, about a week after missing a period (or 3 weeks after sex). If a woman wants to be extra certain, she can buy 2 different brands of tests and see if they give the same result. ...Read more

Conception, as defined by the generation of a fertilized ovum, occurs within day or so of the sex. However, it takes about 2-3 weeks for the embryo to make enough HCG to produce a positive pregnancy test. Blood test may be done a day after a missed period. Home pregnancy tests should be done 4-5 days after the missed period. If the result is negative repeat the test in 4-5 days. Use first morning urine and follow instructions for the test carefully. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time, every time. You may consider implanted contraceptive, or IUD.

Stage of what?: I'm not sure what you mean.... at what stage of pregnancy? Or what stage of expiration date of the test? A urine pregnancy test will be positive all the way through a pregnancy and sometimes up to 3-4 weeks after delivery. As for expiration date, I would trust a test the most prior to it's expiration date, but it's likely it's still accurate for 6 months after. ...Read more
Pretty accurate: Home tests may take a little longer to turn positive (usually up to 2 wks after you're late for your period) than a test at your doctor's office, but they will generally turn positive if you're pregnant. There are some uncommon exceptions, so see your doctor if you still think you're pregnant after 2 home tests spread apart by a week or two. ...Read more
