Test and reassure: Hi. Empty sella syndrome is most often associated with normal pituitary function. You should see an endocrinologist to be tested for pituitary hormone insufficiency (and/or elevated prolactin due to pituitary stalk effects). Empty sella may be associated with increased intracranial pressure, and the "empty sella" is due to CSF pushing into the sella from above. Usually not a problem. ...Read more
I have empty nasal syndrome, what is the best solution to keep nasal passage wet? Its getting dry and block often.
Irrigate: I assume that by saying empty nasal syndrome you mean that you have had multiple sinus surgeries and have chronic nasal crusting and dryness. Unfortunately that is a consequence of outdated sinus surgery, though at the time this was thought to be the best modality. Irrigating often with a high flow saline irrigation, much more than simple ocean spray is typically quite helpful. I like the neilmed system that can be purchased from the grocery store and is inexpensive. Seeing your physician and considering adding pulmicort, something typically used to treat asthma or emphysema by inhalation into the lungs can be quite helpful with this condition. ...Read more
About half of my INTs were removed during a sx I had 3 years ago for septoplasty. Am I at risk for worsening of dryness and Empty Nose Syndrome?
I have recently been diagnosed with chairi 1 and empty sella syndrome. Very symptomatic. My PC doesn't beleive chairi is a real problem. What now?

Empty nose syn: Empty nose syndrome is also called ozena and is characterized by an extremely dry nose with nasal crusting. If the surgeon is careful and just concentrates on the inferior turbinates and does a sun mucosal resection with and out fracture of the inferior turbinates, it is unlikely to happen. I have done hundreds or these surgeries and have not had one case of ozena. Good luck. ...Read more
