Empty Follicles In Ivf
IVF egg removal. 32 follicles only 7 eggs retrieved. Did Lupron (leuprolide) trigger and Hcg. Why so few?
Ask your doc: Many possibilities: incorrect timing (too early OR too late) or administration of hCG, bad batch of hCG, surgeon had difficulty with TVA, maybe only 7 mature follicles and the others were mid-to-small...your doctor and your embryology team are only ones who can answer what happened. Good luck with the 7, sounds good! ...Read more
In vitro fertilization is an assisted reproductive technology. Ivf is a procedure used to treat fertility problems and assist with the conception of a child. During ivf mature eggs are retrieved from the ovaries and fertilized by sperm in a lab. A few days later, the fertilized egg (embryo) or eggs are implanted into the uterus. One cycle of in vitro fertilization ...Read more

No: Immature follicles have not matured to the point that they are functional. Cysts occur once they have matured but are the result of improper function. They can result from other hormone imbalances in the body such as with high androgens (testosterone/DHEA) levels or low Progesterone levels. They can also form after an egg leaves properly from the ovary and are the result of bleeding/ inflammation. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
What is the IUI success rate with 2 follicles and donor sperm? 2 IUIs performed, one Sat. right before eggs released and one Sun. after eggs released
Lots of factors: There are a lot of factors that go into IUI success. The sperm quality, the egg quality, the age of the patient, the lining of the uterus, medical issues and others. Your doctor must have felt you were a good candidate. In about 10-14 days you are likely scheduled for a pregnancy test to determine if it was successful. Until then you have the challenge of waiting patiently. ...Read more

My ICSI doc said they could retreive only 02 eggs out of 09 follicles(>16mm) grown by super ovulation.can follicle be empty? AMH & other hormones r ok
Controversial: This happens infrequently and the idea of "empty follicles" is controversial, but it may explain some cases. The worst case I ever had we got 2 eggs out of 22 follicles. there are other reason for not recovering eggs, mainly if the egg retrieval is too soon or too late after the trigger shot. ...Read more
During hormones therapy for IVF left ovary produced 5 follicles, only 1 survived, the right ovary did not produce good ones although its healthy. Why?
Age: Age is most likely the factor in poor ovarian response to stimulation. The amount of antral follicles decrease as one gets older. No matter how much medication you use the number of follicles that can grow each month is predetermined. This occurs almost a year prior to the stimulated cycle. ...Read more
Had failed IVF cycle today, as Dr. says only 02 eggs were retrieved from 9 follicles grown & those two failed to fertilize with ICSI. is it possible?
Yes: Normal women have a cycle every month but only a few pregnancies in her life. The careful success of a pregnancy requires a host of issues to successfully line up. probably 60% of impregantions are still not successful and even in the face of many sperm many eggs are never impregnanted. Much is still a mystery. ...Read more

Fertility : No need to yell at us. An ultrasound is not, in any way, an infertility work up. There are a dozen physical and chemical processes in conception. A fertility specialist will test each one to determine why you can't conceive. You will not find the answer to your question on the internet. Go to a real infertility specialist. ...Read more
Absolutely: The tubes and ovaries are completely separate embryologic structures and therefore are independent of each other when it comes to ivf. For ivf, all you need is functioning ovaries. It also makes the point that unless absolutely necessary, you should never remove an ovary because you are removing half the number of eggs that are available for ivf recovery. Hope this helps. ...Read more
Other places too: Normal pregnancies start with conception in fallopian tube. Then the embryo develops over a few days to mature enough to stick to the endometrium in the uterine cavity. If mature enough then it will attach and grow. If fertilization occured in the uterine cavity, then the embryo would fall out of the uterus. Ivf allows for outside fertilization. Fertilization outside tube yields ectopic pregnancy. ...Read more
In an embryology lab: The eggs go from the body directly into the IVF lab. Today, the lab is specially designed for air handling, lighting and temperature to support embryo growth. The embryos are cultured for 3-6 days before transfer into the uterus. Embryos receive a score for implantation potential. Sometimes checked for the number of chromosomes and even time-lapse photography. # transferred based on age&quality ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
