Do non autistic siblings of autism kids mirror symptoms of autism?

Do non autistic siblings of autism kids mirror symptoms of autism?

Possibly: Newer studies show that ~ 30% of younger siblings of a child with autism display autistic behaviors early on. Of these ~ 40% are eventually diagnosed with autism, but many of the others have developmental language disorders. It is worth getting the little one evaluated & into early intervention services to re-direct that developmental path as much as possible. ...Read more

What psych dis. Does a person w/delusions, belief alien in brain & hallucinations visual & tactical & thought insertions & be high functioning in life?

Good treatment : It's unusual for someone experiencing these symptoms without treatment to be high functioning, but it does happen for short periods. The movie "a beautiful mind" gives a good depiction. Elyn saks wrote "the center cannot hold" about the struggles of living with schizophrenia and trying to stay high functioning. In all cases getting treatment is key to living life to it's full potential. ...Read more

Tics? If all the : Studies were normal, remember that 11% of children with ASD have tics. The latest studies show that kids with adhd who develop tics on the stimulants methylphenidate (concerta) ; amphetamines usually have an underlying tic disorder, so the meds unmask tics rather than induce them. Compulsions? Maybe, but usually not myoclonic. Adding Intuniv for adhd may reduce them, if they are complex tics. ...Read more

Ever since dealing w/crohns, i've become a bit socially w/drawn (dating & social outings) d/t unpredictable bathroom situation. Is this social phobia?

Not really: While embarrassment about diarrhea in a social situation can commonly cause someone with crohns to avoid social settings, it's a bit different than social phobia, where someone has a more pervasive sense of embarrassment about him or herself. I'd suggest contacting www.Ccfa.Org for support and coping mechanisms. I hope this answer helps. ...Read more

Docs stumped. Periods of dizziness, hard to focus visually, wake up panicky, arm/leg tingling. Neuro exams, blood work, MRIs, audio all normal. Ideas?

Oxygen?: I'm really stretching, but a sleep study came to mind since you mention 'wake' up' as the time frame. Apnea can be an issue. Also, the symptoms could be separate. so an eye exam could help that one alone. An oxygen meter for finger may show it low on waking - that may help Dx. Best wishes! ...Read more

Diff between diagnosis as dissociation vs schizophrenic. Alien deep in brain that tortures w/physical, auditory, and visual stuff 2 do 2 you. Abuse in past?

Could be either: Dissociative Identity Disorder and psychosis can both involve hearing voices making hostile and threatening statements. Often in psychosis the voice comes from outside and is not responsive to being addressed. With DID voices are inside and can engage in conversation if addressed. Doctor/therapist may think psychotic without exploring dissociation as a possibility. Careful assessment is a must. ...Read more
