Ivf (Definition)

In vitro fertilization is an assisted reproductive technology. Ivf is a procedure used to treat fertility problems and assist with the conception of a child. During ivf mature eggs are retrieved from the ovaries and fertilized by sperm in a lab. A few days later, the fertilized egg (embryo) or eggs are implanted into the uterus. One cycle of in vitro fertilization ...Read more

40yrs.Old, pcos, 1st IVF cycle w/genetic testing. Four day 5 embryos - all chromosomally abnormal. Worth another try? 39 eggs were retrieved, 19 fert.

Talk to the prenatal: Genetic counselor at the fertility clinic. Age-related odds are greater than 50% that each of your embryos has aneuploidy, an abnormal number of chromosomes, many of which either won't implant or wion't be carried to term. Age-related risk of having a child with autistic spectrum disorder is also high. Discuss options with your tac doctor to make an informed decision. It's a personal choice. ...Read more

How many days after fertilization does the fertilized egg become a blastocyst? Then embryo? What implants-the blastocyst or embryo?

How many days after fertilization does the fertilized egg become a blastocyst? Then embryo? What implants-the blastocyst or embryo?

The process: As the fertilized egg divides, it is first known as a morula. Approximately 5 days from first fertilization it forms into a hollow ball known as a blastocyst. This blastocyst implants and begins to sort itself out into different layers--the inner group becomes the embryo and the outer layer will work to nourish and protect. At approximately 6-7 weeks from time of fertilization, an embryo begins. ...Read more

I have 11mm endometrium & FET is after 7days.It will grow further. What is the maximum endometrium thickness for frozen embryo transfer in IVF ?

Perfect lining: I assume you will start Progesterone replacement soon as part of your protocol before your fet. Once Progesterone begins you will not see much growth (and possibly some thining) of the endometrial lining. Ideally you want the lining above 8 mm and triple line in appearance before start of the progesterone. There is no hard data on maximum thickness but some feel its around 18 mm. ...Read more

What amount time/days are required for paternal genome and blastocyst development after embryo transfer?

What?: I'm not sure what your question is. 1. If you had a day 3 embryo transfer it will be a blastocyst in 2 days. If you had a day 5 transfer it is already a blastocyst. 2. Paternal genome is working from day one of combination of the two genomes. The dominant genes regardless of maternal or paternal origin take the lead. IVF egg removal. 32 follicles only 7 eggs retrieved. Did Lupron (leuprolide) trigger and Hcg. Why so few?

Ask your doc: Many possibilities: incorrect timing (too early OR too late) or administration of hCG, bad batch of hCG, surgeon had difficulty with TVA, maybe only 7 mature follicles and the others were mid-to-small...your doctor and your embryology team are only ones who can answer what happened. Good luck with the 7, sounds good! ...Read more

If chances of conception increase in 2 embryo transfer IVF Why doc recomend single embryo?what are risks of 2 embryo apart from twins?

It's all about twins: Twins are a little bit trickier pregnancy. Twinning with 2 embryos is as high as 20-30%. In the US the ASRM allows 1 or 2 embryos in a 29 year old woman, but recommends only one. Personally I believe this is patient's choice and do NOT recommend 1 vs. 2, but that's me. 18 days past embryo transfer my hCG is 3665 iu/l what does this mean? (3 embryos transffered)

Well....: first, it certainly means you are pregnant. I suspect that number seems high and multiple pregnancies raise HCG, so, I suspect multiple pregnancies, while more than 3 is theoretically possible, 2 or 3 is what the result will be BUT, in any conception, the risk of very early embryo loss is quite high, so, successful pregnancy likely, multiple is likely and, you WILL need ultrasound in a few weeks ...Read more

In an embryology lab: The eggs go from the body directly into the IVF lab. Today, the lab is specially designed for air handling, lighting and temperature to support embryo growth. Sometimes checked for the number of chromosomes and even time-lapse photography. # transferred based on age&quality ...Read more

Hw can asprine affect growth of embryo. I have to take one 100 mg every morning for my memory problem. Should i stop taking it while going for ivf?

Low-dose aspirin is : used by some to slow memory loss in women > 65, but not reversal of memory loss in any age. It is a Class D drug in pregnancy, per the US Federal Drug Administration, as it has known adverse risks in pregnancy. Stop it now unless your Fertility Specialist okays it. With embryos of grade 1 and grade 2 , if an IVF cycle fails , what could be the possible causes?

With embryos of grade 1 and grade 2 , if an IVF cycle fails , what could be the possible causes?

Complicated: First of all grade is only one part of embryo quality. The rate of growth and expansion of the embryo are most important. I transfer almost always a blastocyst embryo. Many grade 1 embryos early on do not look good later. Also pregnancy rates from grade 1 embryos are twice as high as grade 2 on average. Sthe uterus makes a big difference so proper evaluation is very important. ...Read more

Had IVF 2 day transfer of 3 embryos: a 2 cell, a 4 cell, and a 1 cell. The 2 & 4 cell were the highest grade. What is my chance of success? I'm 41.

Ask your doc: Each clinic determines their own success rates. Pregnancy rates vary considerably from clinic to clinic. For example, we always transfer on day 3 and day 5, so i would have trouble giving you a comparable success rate. However, in general, embryos should be 4 cells on day 2 and the smaller embryos are likely of lower quality. The us national average for 41 yo = 12%. Best wishes. ...Read more
