My globulin levels are elevated to a 4.2. All other things tested on my blood test were all normal. Can a high protein diet or stress cause it?

How do you feel?: Reference ranges are set so that a few percent of healthies fall outside on either end. If you feel okay, I would not give this another thought.

I recently received blood results showing gamma globulin levels of 0.37 when normal range is 0.7-1.6. Is it possible that this is a one-time thing?

I recently received blood results showing gamma globulin levels of 0.37 when normal range is 0.7-1.6. Is it possible that this is a one-time thing?

Maybe: Reference ranges are set so that several percent of healthy folks fall outside on either side. This may just be you. It is no danger. Stop worrying. If this continues or you are very curious, you can get the various types quantitated. Some folks run way-low on one of the three major types. Usually they still do okay.

Hi, blood test results back and my globulin levels are 37g/l and believe this is above range- what can it mean? My albumin levels are 38g/l

Insufficient info: There are many components in the fraction called globulin and you need serum protein electrophoresis and may be immunofixation to resolve the identity of the protein that is increased.

In blood work, does elevated gamma globulin (m-spike) often cause the total serum globulin to be elevated as well?

In blood work, does elevated gamma globulin (m-spike) often cause the total serum globulin to be elevated as well?

Tt could: Since, total globulin level usually includes all kinds of globulins (alpha, m spike etc). An immunoelectrophoresis can further characterize the m spike.

Does low serum globulin affect blood tests that assess immunoglobulin levels? For example if an illness caused proteinuria, could a disease actually cause the test for it to be falsely negative?

Does low serum globulin affect blood tests that assess immunoglobulin levels? For example if an illness caused proteinuria, could a disease actually cause the test for it to be falsely negative?

Depends: If your immunoglobulin (s) is low especially when it involves igg, your immune system is likely impaired. It is not a "false-postive" result although the cause for the deficiency may vary and treated accordingly.

Can malabsorption from small bowel Crohn's decrease sensitivity of IBD blood panel? Wouldn't low serum globulin = fewer antibodies for test 2 detect?

Can malabsorption from small bowel Crohn's decrease sensitivity of IBD blood panel? Wouldn't low serum globulin = fewer antibodies for test 2 detect?

>100, 000 proteins: Globulin = total proteins less albumen, the most abundant protein. While globulins includes antibodies, it also includes many other proteins. Within the 5 antibody subclasses (IgM, IgG, IgA, IgE & IgD), with >100, 000 specific binding activities for just IgG, the whole point is the ratio of relative targeting specifics, competing physiologic controls & responses. Globulin can be? & targeting also?

What do you recommend if I have elevated gamma globulin levels following obstruction?

What do you recommend if I have elevated gamma globulin levels following obstruction?

Underlying disease: Elevated gamma globulin is not a disorder by itself but a manifestation of some underlying disease and that cause needs to be treated.

Can you tell me how is the blood globulin level raised?

Can you tell me how is the blood globulin level raised?

Multiple globulins: And multiple causes. There a number of different proteins called globulins. The usual ones involved in increasing blood levels of globulins are immunoglobulins and common causes are chronic infections, multiple myeloma, cirrhosis and some auto-immune disorders.

I had blood work done. My albumin level was just a little high. Also my albumin/globulin ratio was just a little high. Is that normal?

Normal: Slightly elevated Albumin level is not considered abnormal. Labs are best interpreted in the context of signs/symptoms.

My daughter (3 yrs old) had encephalitis. Blood test showed high gamma globulin level. What could be the reason for this?

My daughter (3 yrs old) had encephalitis. Blood test showed high gamma globulin level. What could be the reason for this?

Body's reaction: To the infection, not specific to the type of virus your daughter was exposed to.

Why would pcp refer me to hematologist due to elevated protein in blood (elevated gamma globulin)? Is this something to be concerned about?

Why would pcp refer me to hematologist due to elevated protein in blood (elevated gamma globulin)? Is this something to be concerned about?

Further evaluation: There are many reasons for elevation of the serum protein. The hematologist is the best person to guide the work-up to determine if you have something like myeloma or other plasma cell dyscrasia or a non-malignant cause of the elevated protein level.

My husband is 31 recently had high blood pressure 140/90. His rbc, cholesterol, glucose are in right levels. His globulin level is 3.9. What does it say?

My husband is 31 recently had high blood pressure 140/90. His rbc, cholesterol, glucose are in right levels. His globulin level is 3.9. What does it say?

Normal: Globulin is a type of protein in the blood. Normal is usually from 2.0 to about 4.0. Levels can go up if someone has liver disease or chronic infections, but it would have to be quite high to be of any concern. Your husband's level seems just about right to me, and I wouldn't look twice if I were his doctor. Don't worry! And what a lucky husband to have you looking over all his results!

I have history of elevated blood protein (8.3-8.7 since 09). Recently did spep with elevated gamma globulin. Why would pcp refer me to hematologist?

I have history of elevated blood protein (8.3-8.7 since 09). Recently did spep with elevated gamma globulin. Why would pcp refer me to hematologist?

Elevated gamma glob: Do you have an m-spike detected on your serum protein electrophoresis? Do you have an imimmunofixation electrophoresis? If you do have m-spike detected- your pcp refers you to see hematologist to make sure you don't have plasma cell disorder etc. Elevated gamma glob alone without m-spike or abnormal ife- could be caused by inflammation, infection etc. Ask this question to your pcp.

Can a high protein diet cause a high globulin level on blood test? Also have iron level at 49the &i enlarged spleen. Advice?

Need eval: I am concerned about the big spleen in your case. High globulin can be caused by many things including chronic inflammation, liver disease, rheumatological problems, malignancy/bone marrow problems etc, you need further evaluation, .

Daughter diagnosed with Celiac Disease 8 weeks ago. Now has severe itching on lower legs only at night time. Low white blood count and high Globulin Serum levels. Severe weight loss, and bruising What could cause this? Itching Issues

There is a very: Characteristic skin rash that accompanies celiac disease: dermatitis herpetiformis. Typically this is a skin manifestation of non-celiac wheat sensitivity. Extremely itchy bumps or blisters appear, especially on the forearms. The lab abnormalities you describe are not typical for celiac; in fact serum globulins may be low. I suspect more than one diagnosis; continue working closely with her Doctor

Can gastritis elevate globulin levels to 4.2?

Can gastritis elevate globulin levels to 4.2?

No: I wouldn't focus on labs but on your overall health. This is a bit elevated but reference ranges are set so that a few percent of folks fall outside on either side. Even mild liver dysfunction, as is often seen in overweight, can raise globulins impressively. See if a return to an intense, fitness-focused lifestyle like when you were a teen helps normalize this and some other things. Best wishes

I have elevated serum globulin. What ate the risk?

I have elevated serum globulin. What ate the risk?

You should find out: The cause. High globulin can be due to many conditions including chronic illness, infection, inflammation, auto immune condition, liver / kidney disease etc ask your dr for reassurance. Take care!
