Elevated Free Testosterone In Women With Ovarian Tumor
Relationship between high testosterone levels in a male and possible adrenal tumor? Other symptoms of adrenal tumor aside from testosterone levels?
Doubt any: High testosterone levels in a normally-functioning young man probably mean nothing, perhaps a personal variant in the amount of the binding protein. I am most concerned about your pituitary adenoma, which as a prolactin-producer is likely to affect your libido independent of your testosterone levels. Adrenal tumors can produce other androgens but seldom testosterone. ...Read more
"tumor" literally translates as "mass", so even a fresh bruise could be called a "tumor". Doctors use the term "neoplasm" (tranlates literally as new growth) to describe tumors that are abnormal growths of cells. These may be benign or malignant; "malignant" = cancer. In everyday usage, we use "tumor" ...Read more
In patients with addison's (high acth) and intermittent ovarian failure (very high FSH at times), could a 1cm pituitary adenoma be hyperplasia from these conditions? If so, do these tumors grow?
Can POCS causes both high androgen and estrogen levels if not overweight? Can eating pyhytoestrogens increase breast cancer in women with POCS?
PCOS: PCOS can increase androgens in patients regardless of their weight. The effects on Estrogen are less clear as these levels fluctuate and typically would not be tested in PCOS. The LH and FSH levels are checked but not Estrogen. The effects of Phytoestrogens such as soy on the risk of breast cancer are debatable. There is not specific recommendation for PCOS patients to avoid them ...Read more

Yes, a pituitary tumors, such as a prolactinoma is a very strong possiblity. Has anyone seen a patient with adrenal insufficiency, intermittent ovarian failure, intermittent glucose intolerance, and thyroid values in normal range? Perhaps also with a pituitary tumor?
Pituitary tumors: You need an endocrinologist to sort this out. A big pituitary tumor (>10 mm) can wipe out other hormones; you could lose some (eg reproductive) but not others. Typically the last to go from a pituitary insult is TSH and acth (thyroid and adrenal), but odd things can occur. A micro tumor does not usually damage the rest of the pituitary, but may produce excess hormone (eg. Prolactin, acth). ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
23 yrsmri pelvis showed lots of follicles in ovaries. Excessive hair growth. Elevated serum prolactin. Slightly high dhea. Very painful period. Pcod?
Depends . . .: It's possible to have issues w/enough lh or leydig cells such that testosterone is low yet fsh ; sertoli cells are fine so no fertility issues. However, taking testosterone in any shape or form will essentially render you infertile as it will shut down your fsh and thus sperm production. If you need to boost your t and maintain fertility, consider off-label hcg, Clomiphene or tamoxifen. Good luck! ...Read more
Are high LH (90 MIU/ML) and FSH (168 MIU/ML) in a post menopausal woman indicative of pituitary disease? (Normal Prolactin, Cortisol (am), TSH)
In PCOS patients can high bioavailable testosterone cause high LH, or does the high LH cause bio test to increase? Insulin, total testosterone normal.
Testosterone: testosterone production in females in mostly from the theca cells of the ovarian cortex, stimulated by LH from the pituitary. High testosterone may feedback to suppress LH, but not the other way around. The amount of available (free) vs. bound is not directly influenced by LH. ...Read more
Low Testostorone, low free T, low SBGH, normal LH, FSH, and TSH. Had increase in T with clomid (clomiphene). Does this rule out pituitary / hypothalamus problem?
Here are some ...: Congratulate for improving T with Clomid, (clomiphene) but need to correlate T-level with clinical low-T-related Sx. This indicates HPT(hypothalamus-pituitary-testicular) axis still functions but suggests some dysfunction in hypothalamus, which has been observed in those having taken CNS-effecting drugs such as opiates for a long duration. Nonetheless, you're in best possible care and continue its use. Best .. ...Read more
I have severe hypogonadotropic hypogonadism with very low testosterone levels caused by pituitary adenoma (prolactin). Is fertility still a possibility or not?
Yes.: Medication, surgery, or even radiation. Medication sometimes fails and surgery can lead to other issues and even affect vision. Some of these tumors are not resectable fully with out causing issue(s). Once the lesion is controlled, the key is having the situation reviewed by your endocrinologist to see what needs to be done to allow normal fertility. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
LH and FSH normal at 2 range (2-9). Prolactin 18 high end of normal. Low T , low sperm count. That could be secondary hypogonadism or pituitary tumor?
Endocrinologist: If ur T is truly low, then FSH and LH should be towards the upper limit of normal (near 9); the fact that it is not could mean secondary hypogonadism, which has many causes (including a tumor). However, a brain tumor should cause some symptom eventually - headaches, vision trouble. U may need to just repeat the blood test to put ur mind at ease. Talk to an Endocrinologist w/ ur symptoms & lab resu ...Read more
Low testosterone in a 25 year old female (pellets suggested). Random lactating but prolactin levels normal. Other symptoms suggest cushings.
See and endocrinolog: Testosterone is not normally replaced in women, especially young women as no one knows the best dose to give w/o significant side effects. Cushings could be possible but some symptoms are vague, if concerned, see endocrinologist for testing for cushings and although pellets are available, they are not the most common form of hrt, requires a minor surgery and can be hard to remove. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers

Irreg menses: High ketosteroids may indicate an adrenal malfunction.
