Usually you: follow the patient and institute BRAND NAME thyroid replacenebt when the TSH increases above nornal, TSH and free T4 are the only tests necessary once you have established elevated antithyroid ab's. What are the chances for patient below 30 y.O & euthyroid to be hypothyroid after hemthyroidectomy? Will the other lobe be enlarged after?

Possibility: It is certainly a possibility, and many would begin thyroid replacement immediately after surgery to prevent enlargement of the remaining lobe and the future formation of nodules (which i assume is why you had the surgery in the first place). If your whole thyroid can't work well enough to avoid problems, what makes you think that half of it can do better? Talk w/your endocrinologist. ...Read more

What's your question: I'm not sure how to help since you have not asked a question! but i can give general advice- many doctors treat hypothyroidism inadequately. Ask your doctor to check free t3. If not in the upper half of the normal range then liothyronine should be added to thyroxine, or change to armour or naturethroid. Unrelated: Sensory neural hearing loss has many possible origins including viral infection,trauma and genetic factors. I can't link it to air travel or thyroid status. It may have been present from birth, if the other ear maintained his developmental progress.If he complained during flight it was likely just temporary pressure imbalance, not a cause for permanent hearing loss. ...Read more

Consult doctor: Your wife diabetes should be well controlled during pregnancy , so that you can have healthy normal baby ,,Baby born to a diabetic mother may be big in size ,may have low sugar or breathing problem but these are temporary and treatable .Your hypothyroid should not affect the baby .You can plan to have another baby .Good luck .Talk to your doctor . ...Read more
