Elevated Ca 125 Sonogram Shows Cyst On Ovary
My CA 125 elevated to 478. I am 20 years. My doctor has diagnosed from a TVUS scan that I have many ovarian cysts on my both ovaries. is it a cancer?
An ultraound, also known as a sonogram, is a painless and relatively inexpensive imaging test that utilizes sound waves instead of ionizing radiation. There are no side effects. Ultrasound can give us two-dimensional, and in some applications three-dimensional, images of structures and organs in virtually any part of the body. In addition to diagnostic uses, such as evaluating abnormalities in the abdomen, pelvis, and breast, ultrasounds are commonly used to guide needle and catheter placement in a variety of surgical ...Read more
I am 49/post menopausal, I have an 11cm cyst on my right ovary, CA-125 test normal. He wants full hysterectomy, I am unsure. Scared. Thoughts?
It depends!: There is some concern that a large cyst in the ovary can be or become cancerous. So removal is often advised. But if you prefer, you can be monitored with serial physical exam and Ultrasound examinations at 6 to 9 month intervals and delay surgery unless the cyst continues to grow or become more complex like showing solid components inside the cyst.. ...Read more

What to do if my friend recently found out that she had cysts in her ovaries, and had a ca125 test.?
Watch: Cysts in ovaries not uncommon and can be defined as simple or complex or even converting by a solid component. Ca125 means Carbohydrate antibody 125. Sugar markers like Ca125, Ca 19.9 Ca 17.1a have no diagnositic capabilities since they are elevated in inflammatory conditions. Ca monclonals can only be measured safely in known conditions of cancer to see progression or not. ...Read more

Cyst on ovary and ca125 came back at 132. Being referred to a obgyn oncologist, what does this mean?
Non specific: An ovarian cyst that gets to be larger than 5cm should be investigated for the possibility of having undergone malignant transformation. The only dx can be by excisional bx. CA 125 stands for carbohydrate antibody/antigen which has about a 50% accuracy in diagnosis and should only be used for monitoring, that is the response or failure to chemo or other forms of treatment. ...Read more

Ca-125 (cancer antigen 125 or carbohydrate antigen 125) is a biomarker/tumor marker for ovarian cancer (etc); however, it is not sensitive or specific enough to use as a screening test. Also, a uk study showed that treating based on ca125 level did not improve outcomes. "125" comes from the 125th attempt to develop a marker. It was introduced by bast ...Read more
