Electronic Cigarette Safe
Safer, not without: Elctric cigarettes provide nicotine, the substance that induces addiction and craving of smoking. Regular cigarettes contain many other chemical substances/preservatives, some are carcinogenic (causes cancer), thus they are worse than electric ones. Some e-cigarettes were found to have dangerous chemicals/carcinogens as well. Thus, a bit safer but not without risk. Consult doc. Good luck. ...Read more
FLAVOR = HEALTH RISK: The Health risk is in the liquid. How much safer are tobacco flavored liquids? Probably some but you are still inhaling tobacco. Non-tobacco flavors are PROBABLY safer but it’s one thing to eat strawberries, it’s quite another to inhale them. We do not know the long-term effects of inhaling strawberries. The safest liquids are flavorless. Experienced "Vapers" make their own liquids to be sure. ...Read more
Probably - Addictive: Yes, they are promoted as safer because of lack of many oxidation byproducts produced by burning tobacco ; this is true. They supply nicotine to keep the addition going but the industry has not performed any clinical trials to evaluate the pros ; cons. Thus the conclusion, through presumably reasonable, is presumptive, not tested, without known reliability ; largely exempted by dshea act 1994. ...Read more
No one knows: To my knowledge and review of this topic, no one knows since no one had done a controlled clinical trial of these products. If you use them and do not smoke, it seems intuitive it "might" help a person, but doctors cannot recommend them legally since we just do not know from accurate research data if they are safe. Would stink if in 5 years we learn they cause more heart attacks than cholesterol. ...Read more
Nobody knows: They are as safe, or as dangerous (depending on how you want to look at it) as regular cigarettes. There is little or no evidence they are any safer, and there are no published reports of their effectiveness in smoking cessation. They do somewhat reduce the "tars" you breath in, and they do reduce side-stream smoke (so they cut down on second hand smoke exposure). Nicotine patches are effective. ...Read more
Yes: To this date I am unaware of any study that shows the electronic cigarettes are not safe. That is for cancer or chronic lung problems. There are some studies on the effects of the nicotine, but I am unaware of any conclusive problems with those studies either. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Pack a day smoker. Just bought an electronic cigarette. Is this really safer? What are the risks vs traditional smoking?
Nobody really knows: It is reasonable to assume that e-cigs will prove to be safer than combustible tobacco smoking, but the reality is that, at this point, there is little or no data. The smoke clearly contains less in the way of cancer-causing tars, but nobody really knows what the other ingredients - propylene glycol, oils, flavorings, additives etc- even are, let alone what they do in the long and short-term. ...Read more
I am four weeks pregnant and a smoker. I am tapering off my smoking, but i wondered if an electronic cigarette would be safe during early pregnancy.
Depends on Liquid: The risk of electronic cigarettes is related to the composition of the liquids they use. The safest will be those which use the least number of compounds. Flavorless Liquid being the safest since it's just vegetable glycerine plus or minus nicotine while tobacco smoke has 4000 to 5000 known compounds in it. Experienced vapers make their own DIY liquids to know for sure -- and to save money. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

E-cigarettes.: Technically speaking, we don't really know the safety of those electronic cigarettes in the long term; newer studies are revealing evidence of harm. But what they do help with is removing your emotional and mental attachment to actual cigarettes, which could ultimately help you quit everything. As well, there seem to be fewer ingredients in them; there are 42 carcinogens in cigarettes. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have no clue: go to a store that sells electronic cigarettes and see. I am not a fan of these, although some of my colleagues think they are a healthier alternative to cigarettes. The problem is that, even without nicotine, there are unknown elements in the vapor (propylene glycol, additives, flavorings, colorings, preservatives) that have not been studied for effects when inhaled chronically. ...Read more
Why ask?: The non-nicotine e-cigarettes use water vapor to simulate smoking, but why "simulate" at all? Try sugarless gum or sugarless stick suckers if you must have the oral fixation. The e-cigarettes that provide nicotine at least do not have the tar and carbon monoxide, but the nicotine is still a potent vasoconstrictor and metabolic drug. Just say no to cigarettes and tobacco of any kind! please! ...Read more
