Microdiscectomy: It is possible that a residual or recurrent disc herniation could cause persistent pain - an MRI with/without contrast would document this. Also, unfortunately there are also cases in which the nerve has already sustained permanent damage, so even if a microdiscectomy is technically successful and without complications, the nerve damage may not be reversible. ...Read more
