Numbness in my heals on my feet, numbness/tingling in my thumbs and electric shock sensation in my arm. What is it?
Without knowing: Details about you as a patient its tough to give a definitive answer. The first thought that comes to my mind is neuropathy. If you have uncontrolled diabetes, then that would be one possible cause. The treatment would be aggresive blood sugar control and use of medications in the class of neurontin (gabapentin). Nerve compression causing these type of symptoms are a possibility though not as likely.... ...Read more

I get a zap or electric shock sensation in my brain sometimes. Had it my whole life. Being tired or looking side to side trigger it. What causes this?
Hard to say: Without knowing anything else, guesses include 1) migraine phenomenon; 2) seizure phenomenon; 3) some kind of cranial neuralgia; or 4) something else. The fact that you've had it your whole life suggests it's not dangerous (so less likely #2). It sounds, however, like something that's worth seeing a neurologist about. ...Read more

After bike n swim, hip joint inflamed. Sometimes pain n electric shock sensation when I stand n twist body left n right. Lumbar MRI fine. What's wrong?
The hip could have osteoarthritis, which can be diagnoses by xray. If the hip is tender on the outer side, it could be a bursitis, which responds well to local steroid injection.
Lumbar MRI often doesn't show pinched nerve, which can cause electric shock. Responds well to lumbar traction/physical therapy, or even epidural steroid injection. ...Read more
Hip joint of 1 leg painful n inflamed after riding bike. Electric shock sensation down leg when doing certain yoga poses. Why? Will celebrex (celecoxib) help?
May be pinched nerve:
Two strong possibilities: 1) pinched nerve of the the low back 2) hip osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis of the hip is a result of wear & tear. This can be diagnosed by x-ray. Celebrex (celecoxib) is an anti-inflammatory med & could help.
The electric shock sensation could be a radiculopathy, aka "pinched nerve" in, or "sciatica." Celebrex (celecoxib) could help, as could physical therapy, or an epidural steroid injection. ...Read more

F 50. Recent trouble remembering things, stiffness in thumb, and painless electric shock sensation through back of leg to foot. Thoughts?
Not sure all: Are connected. Painful muscle spasms in the leg and parasthesias could be due to spinal cord problems. Recent memory problems could be related if you had a condition like MS that involved the spinal cord and brain. The thumb stiffness is difficult to comment on. Could be due to problem in the thumb or issue further upstream (brain, cord or nerve) A neurologist might be of further help. ...Read more
I had a very strong electric shock feeling in my left arm in the middle of the night that made me jump up out of bed. My arm was tingling afterwards.?
Not worrisome: In and of itself, this is not too worrisome - probably you had your head angled in a way that a nerve root in your cervical spine became briefly compressed. That said, if the electrical pains and numbness persists and worsens, or (and especially) if you develop weakness in your arm somewhere (eg biceps) then a short steroid taper might help and an MRI of the C-spine may be warranted. ...Read more

See your doctor.: Some people may experience withdrawal from meds including Anafranil (clomipramine) even at that low dose. I am not sure if your physician is cross-tapering you to an ssri. I assume you are being treated for ocd. If you began an ssri, then the symptoms should dissipate somewhat. If you had a thai massage w/ passive stretching, then you could have irritated nerves such as the sciatic one down the back of your leg. ...Read more
