Musculocutaneous n.: The musculocutaneous nerve provides the nerve supply to the biceps muscle. If this was stretched and temporarily "stunned' during the shoulder replacement, this can explain the symptoms.

The skin sensation from the elbow to the thumb comes from the "lateral cutaneous nerve of the forearm". This nerve is an extension of the musculocutaneous nerve, so this makes sense too. ...Read more
