Radial Head Replacement In The Elbow
I have had 4 radial head implants 5th one soon only last less then a year. Im only 30 would it be a better choice to do a total elbow replacement?
Not necessarily: It depends on the full nature of your problem. There are two joints in the elbow; the ulna-humeral and the radial-capitellar; a total elbow replaces all those where a radial head implant replaces only one part of the radial-capitellar joint. Why have you had so many failures? The answer to that question would guide the surgical decision making. ...Read more

The elbow, as you know from your experience, is a very complex joint(s) and in some ways behaves differently and is more complex than other joints. I.E risk of heterotopic bone formation (ho)
you have options but need to be evaluated very carefully and with someone with extensive experience with elbows. One option for example is removal of the implant without replacement. As with any option this has both advantages and disadvantages i.E main one being the radius can migrate proximally. You and your doctor will have to weigh risks of leaving things as is versus risks of complications going in again i.E ho, radial nerve injury etc.. ...Read more
I had radial head plastic surgery over 20 years ago. Now I am having much pain and stiffness when lifting, pulling or if i hold elbow in bent posit?
Complex: After 20 years it is unlikely that there is any complication of the surgery. Now that being said, there is always an increased likelihood of arthritis in areas after trauma and repair. But there are many other possibilities. The best is to see a local surgeon or check with your primary care md who can then direct you further. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers

Have a radial head fracture by elbow. How come I have to have "aggressive range of motion" instead of a cast?
Avoid stiffness : Elbow is a complex joint that tends to get very stiff with prolonged immobilization so if the fracture of radial head is not displaced and stable then you only need to rest the elbow till acute pain subsides and then start range of motion exercises to prevent stiffness of the elbow good luck. ...Read more
