What are some good exercises for neck pain. I was leaning over & looked up & felt a dull ache from my neck to the back of my head. Now have shooting pains down back ?

Muscle spasm: Could result from poor posture or as you mention, being in the same position por long periods of time. You should try getting up and stretching at regular intervals during your study time, gentle massage and heat may also help relieve your discomfort. No: You should be able to exercise without pain. If your head/neck hurts wtih exercise you may want to see your md for an x-ray. You may have some arthritic changes in your spine leading to the pain. ...Read more

Why i always feel a back neck pain when i wake up in the next morning if i don't had an exercise a day before? Is it cholesterol?
Not likely. : This isn't likely from cholesterol. It's likely due to how you're sleeping. You might be in an uncomfortable position when you go to sleep or it might be due to some tension in your muscles that gets relieved by exercise. Exercise loosens up your muscles so you relax, so keep exercising and see if you're sleeping on a firm, comfortable bed. If this persists, see your doctor to get checked out. ...Read more
If it does not: Improve, consider going to er as you may have ruptured a disc, especially if you have any radiating pain down extremities or back. Otherwise, if you have no contra-indications, heat/ice, nsaids, stretching can all be considered. Ease into it.: You probably strained your neck by working too hard. Whenever returning to exercise after a hiatus, it is extremely important to gradually work into it day by day and to start each workout with a good stretch. Yes: If you have an underlying painful neck condition, i.E degenerative disc disease/pinched nerve/disc bulge; performing aggressive trapezius strengthening exercises can aggravate it. Try and do strengthening exercises with out weights. Consider working with a knowledgable physical therapist to make sure you are doing the appropriate exercises. Neck pain: it is very difficult to pin down exactly where neck pain comes from. To say it comes from uncovertebral hypertrophy at 29 is a stretch. I would recommend a good evaluation from a Rheumatologist. have you had an MRI? pain radiating into the arm suggest possibility of nerve root impingment. you clearly need more evaluation. ...Read more

Depends: It really depends on what the diagnosis is. There are some conditions in which more pain may be expected, such as in rehab for a frozen shoulder. There are other conditions therapy might inadvertently worsen such as a complete cuff tear or a cervical disc herniation. You should probably be checked. Many people have-: -falls of this type every day. You may have some early degerative disease in your cervical spine. If this just happened & you have not had this before, to you it may seem very worrisome. For now rest ice NSAIDS if you are able, & activity modification. As we age or due to occupational reasons, the neck can degenerate and cause neck pain. Rheumatologic conditions can cause neckk pain. Too much to cover here. An over the counter anti-inflammatory would be helpful. Massage and or acupuncture if you prefer to avoid medications.
