I am told my Glomerular filtration Rate is 57.6. Does this indicate Kidney disease? Creatinine is 1.0 BUN is 20 total Protein is 7.0 I am 55 w/f

GFR: Your Estimated filtration rate is borderline. This is not a problem itself. The important concern is whether disease exists that might be progressive. Serum creatinine of 1.0 is "normal". So is serum creatinine 1.1. However, creatinine relates to muscle mass. If you are small muscled as a. 55 yo woman, then creatinine of 1.1 or 1.0 may indicate some minor impairment in its excretion. ...Read more

My bun/creatinine ratio is low and my egfr non african american is low (57.4) the urine itself was normal but dark and cloudy. What's going on?

My bun/creatinine ratio is low and my egfr non african american is low (57.4) the urine itself was normal but dark and cloudy. What's going on?

I'm not worried: This isn't science. The adjustment for race is there "because black people are more muscular than white people". BUN/creatinine ratio being low is never a problem if you feel even semi-well. Dr. F. has given you good advice. Just keep an eye on this and if your actual creatinine is up well above reference range for a time, get evaluated. ...Read more

Does this mean kidney disease? Any reason for co cern? High creatinine low egfr normal bun

How high?: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, it would have been helpful to know the actual creatinine and eGFR values. If these are abnormal if would be prudent to consult a nehprologist so that a treatable entity is not overlooked. ...Read more

My 2007 med record says: glucose 104, bun 25, creatinine 1.5, bun/creat ratio 17, egfr 58. Any danger in any of those, i'm scared :-(

My 2007 med record says: glucose 104, bun 25, creatinine 1.5, bun/creat ratio 17, egfr 58. Any danger in any of those, i'm scared :-(

Of what?: This is from 2007, which is 6 years ago and therefore of limited significance. Newer results are needed. Your creatinine is very slightly high for someone your age, but may have been falsely elevated due to dehydration. Don't be afraid, go get more current results and discuss them w/your doctor. ...Read more

My creatinine levels were flagged at 1.18 my bun was normal at 11 and my eGFR was 68 normal for African American I am 37?

My creatinine levels were flagged at 1.18 my bun was normal at 11 and my eGFR was 68 normal for African American I am 37?

You're fine: As a pathologist, I join many of my friends in nephrology in thinking that these "estimated GFR's" are subscientific rubbish intended to get people to take Big Pharma pills they don't need. The racial stuff was actually introduced "because black people are more muscular." When I was lifting wieghts daily, my creatinine ran 1.6-1.7. You're not a kidney patient in my humble opinion. ...Read more

Bun is 28, creatinine 1.16. Egfr 61. Healthy 35 yr old caucasian female. Only problem is benign fasciculations x1 year. Normal creat kinase. Why?

Bun is 28, creatinine 1.16. Egfr 61. Healthy 35 yr old caucasian female. Only problem is benign fasciculations x1 year. Normal creat kinase. Why?

Stop worrying: I am going to assume that you feel well and are asking why your estimated GFR is lowish and your BUN a bit high. I like to eat protein and my BUN is always high. Are you athletic? When i was lifting daily my creatinine was 1.6-1.7; or a Motrin tablet or minimal kidney disease may be raising yours. I suggest repeat in a year and stop fretting over a number in the meantime. ...Read more

Would getting a UTI cause the kidney numbers like egfr, bun, and creatinine to change for the worse?

Would getting a UTI cause the kidney numbers like egfr, bun, and creatinine to change for the worse?

UTI and EGFR: Normally, uti's have no effect on gfr. If you have some obstrction (o) in your urinary outflow tract, your GFR can decrease until the o is resolved. What was the time interval between your GFR readings? Call you doctor and get his advice or see a nephrologist for another opinion. Good luck. ...Read more
