Can gastritis cause bad stomach pain, severe nausea & vomitting? Unable to keep food down x2 we on Q6hr Zofran (ondansetron) & Ativan. EGD today showed gastritis

Yes, but...: Yes, it can cause bad stomach pain, nausea and vomiting, but I've never seen cases with severe nausea and vomiting. Perhaps there is more going on like pancreatitis? How does your labwork look? I'm glad you have a GI specialist who hopefully and probably took a biopsy with the EGD. Poor you. I hope the zofran and ativan are working. Are you sure there is no bowel obstruction. How long on Simponi (golimumab)? ...Read more

EGD diagnosis atrophic gastritis/IM. 4d history of moderate to severe stomach pain, fever, nausea/vomiting worse at night. What can I take for relief besides PPI?

Fever abdominal pain: If EGD was 4 days ago call your doctor/ ER/urgent care NOW and state you are having post procedure pain and fever, could be from biopsy site ,microperforation, pancreatitis, bleed, sepsis or spasm.

If EGD was a while ago can be H. pylori, infection, gallbladder, pancreatitis, esophageal infection ( rarely candida). Ranitidine/carafate may help, but need to seek immediate medical attention. ...Read more

Many things: I would strongly suggest further evaluation. Persistent low grade fevers aren't normal. Could be something simple like epstein barr infection which causes mono. Or some other infxn. More extreme concern would be more serious infection or blood disorder. As a women worth your symptoms a gynecologic exam is also needed. Most of the concerns can be evaluated with simple blood test or imaging. ...Read more

Let's see...: Negative testing for structural or inflammatory issues, ; relief after use of a gut relaxant and probiotic--this scenario increases the likelihood for a functional process (maybe irritable bowel syndrome). Further negative tests would however be more reassuring. Seek doctor's assistance again since symptoms are recurrent. ...Read more

Stomach pain/nausea?
Pain after eating x 1.5 wk, NI with PPI, mixed stools, consulted gastro, EGD next week. How to relieve discomfort before then?

What's going on?: Recommendations for help would best be made once the issue causing your discomfort is elucidated. If we're presuming there's an upper GI source, perhaps something like Tums or Pepcid (famotidine) would give you some relief until your EGD. ...Read more

May 2012 egd showed gastritis, colonscopy showed diverticulosis, .Colicky diffused abdominal pain since dec 2012, could this be small bowel cancer?

Not likely : Small bowel cancer is rare as my other colleague has mentioned. Chronic constipation is related to development of diverticulosis. Your symptoms may be related to chronic constipation and also you are at risk to have diverticulitis- which is inflammation of the diverticulosis ( pouching of the colonic wall). Those 2 could give diffuse colicly pain. You need to go to see your md for further eval. ...Read more

The medications: used in the treatment of Lupus may be stomach irritants (eg: steroids cortisone like drugs) If this is NOT the case suggest a trial of a H-2 bocker (eg PEPCID) or a Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) eg PriLosec
Hope this is helpful!

I have frequent digestive problems with nausea, diarrhea, heartburn, & abdominal pain, bloating & cramping. I had an egd, dr said i'm fine, help!?

?GERD & IBS: You might have both reflux disease (the heartburn) which responds often to over the counter drugs like Prilosec or Prevacid (lansoprazole) and irritable bowel syndrome. The latter is improved with stress management, avoiding trigger foods, and some medicines like anti spasmodics, probiotics, antidepressants, and others. ...Read more

Nausea, fatigue, mild abdominal pain, fever for months.symptoms worsen before period. had colonoscopy/egd, blood & fecal test all clear. what to do next?

Check gallbladder: You should have your primary care provider order an ultrasound of your gallbladder to check for stones or signs of inflammation. If that is normal, you should have a HIDA nuclear scan to check for biliary dyskinesia. If either test is positive, you would likely benefit from a laparoscopic cholecystectomy. ...Read more

Ate fried catfish now severe stomach pain that hurts through my back and hurts when push down on belly. What can it be ?

Ate fried catfish now severe stomach pain that hurts through my back and hurts when push down on belly. What can it be ?

Stomach problem: Catfish when fried and ingested can cause severe problems in activating a prepyloric ulcer in the lower stomach. Perforation is into the lesser sac behind the stomach. That area sits right over the pancreas and can initiate pain. Pressure here will initiate the symptoms further. If releasing pressure on the abdominal wall causes more pain, rebound is a sign of local peritonitis. ...Read more
