How can I know that my ''effexor XR 75mg'' works effectively ? I used it for 6 weeks until now .

Team Talk: The treatment of depression with medication is a team project with you and your M.D. As the team. Often the game plan will include psychotherapy and medication. If a psychiatrist is rx the meds and providing psychotherapy, the progress will be discussed in sessions. If non- M.D. Is doing psychotherapy, there will need to be talk between 3 team members. Sometimes it takes 4-6 weeks for meds to work. ...Read more

Maybe: Pristiq is a cogener of effexor...Pristiq is the right rotatory molecule of the racemic mixture known as effexor...Basically, the same medication...Pristiq is more potent..Venlafaxine versus desvenlafaxine...Don't confuse potency with efficacy, however... ...Read more

One 5 mg tablet of Valium every 2 to 3 days affects my anxiety more than the 112.5 mg of effexor-xr i take daily. Should i increase the Effexor (venlafaxine) dose?

Work w/your doctor: You really need to work with your doctor on any medication changes, rather than asking online physicians who don't know you. Effexor (venlafaxine) can be very helpful in anxiety. ...Read more

Began effexor-xr 9 weeks ago for gad and health anxiety. Up to 112.5 mg today. No effect yet. What is the average dose at which an effect is seen?

Began effexor-xr 9 weeks ago for gad and health anxiety. Up to 112.5 mg today. No effect yet. What is the average dose at which an effect is seen?

Effexor (venlafaxine): It sounds like your doctor is being gradual in titrating your dose. I have seen some effectiveness of Effexor (venlafaxine) around 150mg/day. However, i hope you're not relying completely on Effexor (venlafaxine) to relieve your health anxiety. Psychotherapy is essential also. Best wishes. ...Read more

I was wondering if it is safe to take Remeron (Mirtazapine) and Effexor XR (Venlafaxine ER) six hours apart from each other? E.g. Ven 6pm & Mirt 12am

I was wondering if it is safe to take Remeron (Mirtazapine) and Effexor XR (Venlafaxine ER) six hours apart from each other? E.g. Ven 6pm & Mirt 12am

Caution!: You do not state how come you are taking two different antidepressants - mirtazapine alone taken at bedtime should enable sleep and at gradually increasing doses should take care of the depression. Venlafaxine tends to have stimulating features in many people, perhaps accounting for it. This should be taken early in the day and at proper doses should take care of the depression alone. ...Read more

Tapered off 150 mg of Effexor-XR (had been taking for 9 months) over a 6 week period. One month later still experiencing withdrawal symptoms. Unusual?

Not unusual: Withdrawal symptoms vary depending on the specific drug, how long you were on the drug, and how quick the taper was. For Effexor (venlafaxine) XR it would not be unheard of to have symptoms for 6 weeks or possibly a little longer. Let your MD know that you are still experiencing problems due to the changes. ...Read more

Effexor (venlafaxine) dose: There is no one "best dose" for Effexor (venlafaxine)/Effexor (venlafaxine) XR. A therapeutic dose of Effexor (venlafaxine) varies considerably from person to person depending on symptoms, weight, metabolism etc. Dosing must be individualized and carefully monitored for beneficial vs. side effects. Speak with your doctor if you're not feeling better on your present dose. Keep all follow-up appointments. I hope this helps. Best wishes. ...Read more

I'm taking 150 mg of Effexor-XR for GAD. Anxiety & nervousness are listed as common side-effects. Tense now: side-effect (lower dose) or increase it?

Normal dose: As you mentioned, this is a side effect that can occur with Effexor (venlafaxine) XR. Generally, these side effects are transient and go away after a few days. However, this dose is generally achieved after a 1-2 week titration period. Best bet is to call the prescribing doctor and tell them what's happening since they know your history. If manageable, try to stick with it for a few more days. Hope that helps! ...Read more
