I have been taking Depakote and Effexor (venlafaxine) for a lil over a decade, worried abouy my liver will detoxing help it and if yes, what are the best ways ?

Get blood test: Liver function can and should be checked periodically by a simple blood test ordered by your doctor. Also, the actual blood level of Depakote and the need for both medicines should be checked periodically. The liver itself is a detoxifier; changing medication or specific medical treatment, if needed, should be advised by your doctor. No home remedy is reliable or recommended. ...Read more

Hi there, I am on 400mg of Lamictal as of last week and now take 450mg of Effexor (venlafaxine) on top. I am worried about my liver but It helps my weight loss woes?

The pill dilemma: We must acknowledge the perspective of individual biology and the issue that some people come from heavy families. Kindness required. There is no free ride, as was revealed in the phen/fen debacle. ...Read more

Probably Not: Especially for someone who is young. Neurontin (gabapentin) doesn't even get metabolized by the liver. Liver and Alcohol: First, your friend is probably an alcoholic. Drinking when one has liver disease is crazy or insane. Fatty liver alone can cause early death from liver failure. Drinking alcohol in that setting is very unhealthy. His liver is not able to do much when it is ill. I would suspect that his blood alcohol level is accurate...He drank too much to be driving. ...Read more
