Would Strattera work for my ADHD? Effexor (venlafaxine) made my anxiety worse. Also have MDD and GAD. Taking Ritalin and Zoloft. Ritalin causing GAD to b worse

Possibly: Strattera (atomoxetine)'s mode of action is like that of the tricyclic antidepressants. As a result it might have a positive effect on anxiety . It might make your inattentiveness better, especially if the anxiety is contributing. Speak to your doctor about Strattera (atomoxetine) and stopping Ritalin if it is making your anxiety symptoms worse. ...Read more

What would be the best dosage of Effexor (venlafaxine) for ADHD ? 75 or 150 mg?

Though a small study: showed promise for Venlafaxine to have a 70% chance of reducing ADHD symptoms in adults, it's not FDA- approved for that use. It is prescribed to some adults with Anxiety Disorders & comorbid ADHD. Adderall 20mg 3-4 day, Effexor (venlafaxine) 150mg 57yrs old, ADHD, high b/p, getting aggressive behavior, and obese, On B/P Medications, many highs, & lows, why?

Checked in with doc?: There sound to be a lot of things going on at once here and I can't be sure they all have to do with either the Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) or some other single problem. You should call your doc and get in for another examination or have them make some adjustments based on your conditions. They know you better than anyone. ...Read more

What ssri is best for anxiety that would go w/effexor nd imipramine?

What ssri is best for anxiety that would go w/effexor nd imipramine?

Steamline, ssri: Is probably all you need. The difference in treatment for anxiety requires more robust doses than for treatment of depression alone. Effexor (venlafaxine) is an snri; it increases norepinephrine which could be fueling anxiety in the first place. Except in some exceptions, not good practice to combine multiple antidepressants as side effects become more likely. Discuss w/ doc. Hope this helps. ...Read more

Does anxiety require a higher dose of Effexor (venlafaxine) than depression?

Does anxiety require a higher dose of Effexor (venlafaxine) than depression?

It depends: On what kind of anxiety you're talking about. Ocd often does require higher-than-antidepressant doses. Generalized anxiety disorder, panic, etc might not. If you're not getting the hoped-for benefit, it can be an ongoing process with your psychiatrist to find an effective regimen. Psychotherapy is an important part of treatment for anxiety, and should be a part of yours if it's not already. ...Read more

Can you tell me is effexor/venlafaxine better than Paxil (paroxetine) for social anxiety?

Can you tell me is effexor/venlafaxine better than Paxil (paroxetine) for social anxiety?

Social Anxiety: Reactions to the various ssris is very individual. Some of them are marketed as better for certain specific anxiety or depressive disorders, but in fact the only way to know which med or meds is going to work for you is to try them under the care of a skilled psychiatrist and make adjustments, additions, or stop them if they are not working or causing side effects. The most important thing is to find a therapist skilled at treating your particular disorder. Specialists in anxiety disorders most often use cognitive and behavioral techniques to help you feel and function better. ...Read more

It might: This medicine sometimes can cause some weight gain over months. The question is, will it eliminate the anxiety ?You must " weigh" the risk of a possible few pounds of weight gain to the benefits of being rid of the anxiety. If you decide to try the medicine, within 6-8 weeks , you will know if it is helping the anxiety.Durring this time, weigh yourself daily. If your weight starts to creep up...Diet. ...Read more

Began effexor-xr 9 weeks ago for gad and health anxiety. Up to 112.5 mg today. No effect yet. What is the average dose at which an effect is seen?

Effexor (venlafaxine): It sounds like your doctor is being gradual in titrating your dose. I have seen some effectiveness of Effexor (venlafaxine) around 150mg/day. However, i hope you're not relying completely on Effexor (venlafaxine) to relieve your health anxiety. Psychotherapy is essential also. Best wishes. ...Read more

I feel the need to count in my head or else i feel like something bad will happen. I have anxiety also. Is taking Effexor (venlafaxine) the wrong treatment?

All of a sudden I'm reading that anxiety may be caused by EXCESS serotonin! (I'm taking 112.5 Effexor (venlafaxine) for GAD) Is there any validity to these findings

All of a sudden I'm reading that anxiety may be caused by EXCESS serotonin! (I'm taking 112.5 Effexor (venlafaxine) for GAD) Is there any validity to these findings

NOT Simple: Serotonin (5HT) is 1 of many neurotransmitters (NTs) in the brain. The effects of too much/ too little NT aren't evident right away. The brain responds to drugs & NTs in complex ways. Low 5HT levels in the hippocampus over time cause depression. But raising 5HT levels right away doesn't reverse depression. You need time for the neurons to make new connections. 5HT in bloodstream causes anxiety. ...Read more

Appropriate move: Your doctor made a reasonable decision to increase your dose of Effexor (venlafaxine) XR to 225 mg to address your anxiety. If you have been tolerating the medication without problems so far, most likely you will not have any issues. Hopefully with this adjustment, you will achieve the desired benefit. Of note - there can be a dose dependent increase in blood pressure with doses over 300 mg. All the best. ...Read more

Yes!: Effexor (venlafaxine) is as effective in several forms of anxiety.
