Effects Of Swallowing A Chicken Bone
Swallowed bone: It depends on the size of what you swallowed. If it was a round-ish or small piece and does not feel like it got stuck anywhere on the way down, it will generally pass by itself. If it is larger or sharp and/or feels like it got stuck on the way down, you should go to the er and have it retrieved to prevent it from possibly perforating the digestive tract. ...Read more

Is it possible to feel symptoms the day after swallowing a believed chicken bone? I did not feel anything hours after.
If stuck or scratch: Small bones may actually pass thru the gut. However, large or elongated structures have the risk of turning sideways and getting stuck at any point in the GI tract. Bones can be endoscopically retrieved when they've made it no further than the stomach. The ideal time to get help then is within 4 hours of ingesting the bone. If after that & you have obstruction symptoms, go straight to the ER. ...Read more
It depends: How big was the bone? Esophageal complications from swallowing sharp animal bones are common and must be removed by endoscope. If the bone passed through the esophagus without injury and depending on the size and shape, one might consider following the progress through the GI tract for 3 days. Any pain, nausea, vomiting, fever, or melena must be addressed promptly. ...Read more
It depends...: A person who swallows a small hard object such as a piece of bone, and then continues to eat solid food without problems... need not worry. If he was able to eat foods like bread or meat afterwards, then he knows the small hard object is in his stomach. Small bones that get in the stomach just get pooped out with the regular poop... unless you are really, really unlucky. So, generally, no worries. ...Read more
An: An airway problem would be unlikely. Most problems relating to impacted thin, sharp, bones manifest with a history of persistent and progressive foreign body sensation in the throat associated with worsened pain during swallowing. X-rays may miss this. If the history fits this pattern, have your chlld seen by an ENT for fiberoptic examination (if child tolerant of it-depending on age) or exam under anaesthesia if necessary for possible foreign body removal. If he is not having any symptoms, or those of minor throat irritation that is improving over a short period of time, he either swallowed it or abraded the mucosal surface during passage in most cases. ...Read more

Yesterday I swallowed chicken with little bone. Now I couldn't feel any symptom such as pain. Is there any specific symptom could I feel if got stucked in esophagus. I havea gastritis. Differnt sympto?
You would know it's stuck in your throat: If it was stuck in your throat, you would have pain in your throat, and it would feel like something's not going down completely. So that's good. The gastritis may or may not be related to that. Chances are higher if the bone was small enough, and it's in your food, and passes out of your body as stool, you should have no problem. If the gastritis continues however, you need to contact your pcp, and have this examined further. ...Read more

I swallowed a small piece of chicken bone lastnite it is in my throat I can feel it whenever I try to hack it up and its not coming out, what to do?
Foreign body: This is a common occurrence for people. Fortunately, most of the time, it is a scratch in the throat that you are feeling and not the actual chicken bone. However, I would recommend that you go to a walk-in or ED, where an X-ray can be done to check for a retained bone. If this is the case, a brief surgical procedure would be necessary to remove it. ...Read more
I feel like I've got a cut in my throat, I swallowed a small chicken bone the other day, I think and now it hurts when I eat?
Depends on: How long ago, how severe your pain is, and associated symptoms such as fever, inability to phonate, chest pain, etc. It is unlikely that the bone perforated your esophagus, but certainly possible that it caused a superficial injury. See your doctor to be sure, especially if symptoms are severe or persistent. ...Read more
What do I do if I have a small piece of bone stuck in my throat? I was eating chicken and I swallowed a small piece of bone. I can feel it stuck in my throat but it doesn't hurt, it is just uncomfortable and I don't know what to do to get it out.
This: This isn't something you are likely to remove yourself nor should you try. Most sharp thin foreign bodies (whether it be chicken bones, fish bones, etc.) typically lodge in recesses or pouches we call the vallecula (at base of tongue) or in the pyriform sinus (on the side of the voicebox) and, therefore, are usually inaccessible to the patient. You should be seen by an ENT physician for a good fiberoptic exam. If nothing is obviously seen but symptoms persist, we generally recommend direct laryngoscopy and exam under anaesthesia for a better look. Impacted foreign bodies unattended to will incite an inflammatory response and make symptoms worsen over time. ...Read more

Bowel movement: The chicken bone may have scratched your throat, but usually does not do much more than that. I swallowed a chicken wing bone and went to ER yesterday. It wasn't in my throat but will my stomach digest it. I feel bloated and am concerned?
Maybe nothing, but..: Small fish bones may pass harmlessly through your gut. However, if they turn sideways, they may get stuck at any point. This may cause local inflammation (in the esophagus and throat it may feel like something is stuck when it is not), rupture, foreign body reactions, and impede eating as food backs up behind the obstructing bone. Fish bones are frequently not seen by x-ray. ...Read more
