What are the physical and mental side effects of alcohol and prozac (fluoxetine). Beer mixed with tequila and prozac (fluoxetine)?

Alcohol & Depression: Alcohol in any form -- including beer and tequila -- is a depressant. Combined with prozac, (fluoxetine) you could have much more sedation or intoxication than you expect. Especially when used in large quantities, alcohol disrupts your sleep cycle and neuronal tone. People usually take Prozac (fluoxetine) for depression or anxiety. Disrupting your sleep & neurons can worsen these conditions.

Is it okay to drink alcohol occasionally (very infrequently) while taking Prozac and wellbutrin (bupropion)? Effects?

Is it okay to drink alcohol occasionally (very infrequently) while taking Prozac and wellbutrin (bupropion)? Effects?

Alcohol & prozac (fluoxetine)?: Typically, if ones use is truly & honestly limited, it may be alright to consume a small amount of alcohol. Alcohol does have pronounced effects on mood & anxiety, however, so if ur just beginning treatment, it may be tough to tell if your meds are working as they should be with alcohol in the picture. I would confer with your prescribing doc, and abstain until you've discussed w/ him/her. Be well

Does alcohol makes Prozac (fluoxetine) less effective?

Does alcohol makes Prozac (fluoxetine) less effective?

In a way: Drinking on an ssri antidepressant can make depression or anxiety persist ("fighting" the treatment), ; increases seizure risk. The med can also make alcohol feel stronger, impairing driving ; similar activities more than expected. The standard rule: avoid all alcohol. That said, people use ssris for months or years, ; some use alcohol occasionally in small amounts ; are ok. Weigh the risks.

Can you give me advice? I have been taking Prozac (fluoxetine) for about two months, and that alcohol makes Prozac (fluoxetine) less effective?

Alcohol: Alcohol is a no no with psychiatric medications for the most part. It does make it less effective. Alcohol is a depressant so it can worsen depression. Alcohol is always stronger then the medicine.

Can you tell me how prozac, (fluoxetine) curare, ectasy, nicotine and alcohol affect how neurotransmitters pass synapes?

Can you tell me how prozac, (fluoxetine) curare, ectasy, nicotine and alcohol affect how neurotransmitters pass synapes?

Really can't: None of them actually change what happens at synapses except curare, which blocks acetylcholine from being released in muscles and causes paralysis. Nicotine acts at nicotinic cholinergic neurons to increase numbers of synapses, resulting in muscle relaxation and mild stimulation. Ecstacy increases Dopamine in pleasure centers. Alcohol indirectly effects Dopamine as well, and also NMDA receptors.

Can I drink alcohol and how much if I take 3 Prozacs (fluoxetine) per day? Or I shouldn't take it that day?

Can I drink alcohol and how much if I take 3 Prozacs (fluoxetine) per day? Or I shouldn't take it that day?

Not advisable: It is not advisable to drink alcohol with prescription medications. Combining alcohol and prozac (fluoxetine) (fluxoetine) can increase nervous system side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment.

How does alcohol interact with Prozac (fluoxetine)? Is an occasional glass of wine ok? I mixed 60mg plus up to 3 glasses for years with no apparent ill effect.

How does alcohol interact with Prozac (fluoxetine)? Is an occasional glass of wine ok? I mixed 60mg plus up to 3 glasses for years with no apparent ill effect.

Sounds like you: Already know the answer to this question. Use of alcohol is contraindicated with Selective Serotonin Reuptake inhibitors (which includes prozac). You won't hear me telling you that it is ok.

Is it ok to drink alcohol when taking wellbutrin (bupropion) and Prozac together?

Is it ok to drink alcohol when taking wellbutrin (bupropion) and Prozac together?

Not good: First off, alcohol is a depressant so it makes it harder for the meds to work. Second Prozac (fluoxetine) can raise your blood alcohol levels as much as 50%. An occasional beer or glass of wine with dinner may be ok, but its best to avoid alcohol while contending with depression. And know that it may take much less alcohol than usual to fail a brethalyzer test while taking prozac, (fluoxetine) which stays in you 7-10 days.

I'm taking Prozac (fluoxetine) (the generic form) for anxiety and depression. Is it ok to drink alcohol when im taking this?

Be careful: I'd limit self to no more than one drink until I know how it would affect you. Also, side alcohol is a depressant, it can counter the affect of the prozac (fluoxetine). Be judicious.
