Minoxidil for Women: While safe, over-the-counter women's topical Minoxidil is often tried with disappointing results because the traditional rogaine (minoxidil) or generic version can be messy, irritating to the skin and weak in terms of hair growth. Many patients find improved usability with compounded prescription formula 82m Minoxidil because it is stronger on the follicle and is easier to use (dries fast, less greasy, etc.). ...Read more

I am a female, suffering extensive hairloss after typhoid. Is minoxidil 2% suitable for me to take? Please advice if there are some other effective meds
First it is impor-: Tant to make sure topical minoxidil is only applied to scalp. Laser permanently gets rid of hair growth, but continued use of minoxidil may lead to more facial hair. I would see dermatologist for other possible treatments for hair growth. Electrolysis typically leads to some element of scarring while laser done in doctor office (where doc is fellow of american society of laser medicine and surger ...Read more
No: Rogaine (minoxidil) only acts directly where it is applied. Men put it on their scalp in the front receding hairline area of in the back circle of hair loss. Women get more of a female pattern baldness when is overall equal hair loss from the entire scalp. You may use rogaine (minoxidil) for this, but be sure to wash your hands so you don't transfer it to areas where you don't want hair growth to be encouraged! ...Read more

Rogaine (minoxidil): For women and men, use rogaine (minoxidil) for men because it is 5% and is the strongest. I'm 28yrs n have female pattern hair loss. I'm using minoxidil 5% for the past 3years with no difference. It seems to b getting worse. Wt am i to do?
Needs evaluation: There are many possible reason for hair loss. More than one cause can happen at one time, for example a woman may have hormonal abnormalities that may lead to an androgenetic hair loss but she may also have thyroid dysfunction which contributes to shedding, etc. You need a thorough physical, some blood work, a hair pull to see distribution of hair growth and possibly a scalp biopsy. ...Read more
Define "forever.": If you stop using it, your hair will go back to the way it was before you started using it — but that doesn't mean you're stuck with it "forever." it means you need to keep using it until a better, more permanent hair loss treatment is invented. That could be next week or 10 years from now, but not "forever.". ...Read more

Should I take specific vitamins/medication/oils? I tried minoxidil it didn't work.
Can one build up a tolerance to either Alrex (loteprednol) and Pred Forte eye drops over time, decreasing their effectiveness?
Probably not: Alrex (loteprednol) is extremely weak and you would not be likely to notice the difference. Pred Forte has a good deal of anti-inflammatory strength but is a cognate of a natural hormone so you would not lose response. The condition you are treating might get more severe however which you would interpret as the drop losing effectiveness. ...Read more

Can laser therapy help female-pattern alopecia? (crown, sides, and overall thinning) anything besides rogaine (minoxidil)? (child-bearing years)
See a dermatologist for a clear diagnosis as many conditions can mimic female pattern hair loss. You may need additional tests. Unfortunately oral meds are out for women. Topically the most cost effective is rogaine (minoxidil).
Latisse might work as well but is cost prohibitive. New topicals are coming. Led lights and laser are not proven to be effective. ...Read more
