I recently took a trip to vegas from Colorado. And just got back.... having issues with edema, and tight feeling chest. Lots of drinks and no sleep?
Edema: Prolonged sitting on a plane, fluid retention from high sodium containing drinks contribute to formation of edema. Your chest tightness may be due to stress and tension from sleep deprivation, but if there are associated shortness of breath and sharp chest pains and/or calf pain and tenderness, get checked for blood clots in the legs and pulmonary embolism. When in doubt, it's better to get checked ...Read more
Gravity: When legs are down gravity pulls the water down and it pools in your legs. When you lay down it re-distributes in your body. At night when asleep your kidneys frequently filter better as there is more blood flow to them when less to muscles, etc at rest and it helps to clear fluid from the body. Answer is less fluid intake and less salt intake, not more diuretic as they are hard on kidneys! ...Read more

I have clear mucus in my throat only when I eat or lay down to sleep. What causes that? Can it be caused from your heart? Started when I got bad edema
Possibly: These could be symptoms of congestive heart failure. The triad of difficulty breathing when laying flat, shortness of breath to exertion, and lower extremity swelling are all classic signs. Moreso still if the breathing is much better shortly after sitting upright. If you are waking up w/in a few hours of going to sleep gasping for breath or choking, this also fits. Only your doc can tell for sure. ...Read more

My eyes are getting dry, which leads to irritation and swelling of eyes. I sleep at late nights around 2-3 am and wake around 10am.
Lack of lubricant: The most common cause of dry eyes is a decrease in the production of tears that lubricate the eyes. This can also be caused by seasonal allergies (pollen, etc). If you are wearing contacts, you should take them out more often. You could start out with over the counter moisturizing drops, but if you need to use them for a long time, you should see an eye doctor. Plugs or prescription drops for dry. ...Read more
I hit my head off a pipe in the basement about two hours ago I have a mild headache, there was swelling but I applied ice is it ok to sleep?
Not sure: Is it a normal time for you to sleep or do you feel tired/groggy because you bumped your head? The risk is that with brain injury and concussion, the respiratory center in the brain can become compromised and staying awake long enough to seek medical care is thus important. It is unlikely, however, that you hit it hard enough to cause concussion or internal bleed. No way to know without an exam ...Read more

I have some swelling on my right hip and a little pain...what could this be? Also I have been sleeping on a hard mattress for over 20 years,
No: Sleep or lack thereof and alcohol have nothing to do with lymph nodes there. However, I see you are on antibiotics after a tooth extraction which must have also been infected. This infection is certainly the cause of the swollen nodes. If these nodes do not improve as the dental infection does then you need to followup for evaluation. ...Read more
