Check renal function: You mother needs to go to a nephrologist to see at what level her kidneys work. She should also collect her urine for 24 hours to see if she has any significant amount of protein in it. Low levels of protein can cause edema. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Is it possible to get edema and fatigue from kidney disease even though you have normal urine and blood tests?
Swelling of Legs: By the time significant edema is occurring in kidney disfunction, tests are highly likely to detect the kidneys as the source. Complex question: Grade one or two does not suggest severe disease but does implicate some problems. Need to know the cause of the loss of kidney function. If infection it may get better. If you have diabetes it needs very good control. If the edema is new it can be associated with the loss of kidney function if infectious. Follow doctor instruction. May go back to normal dependent on the cause ...Read more

I did several tests that ruled out kidney, liver&other issues. But I sometimes have pitting edema(not always) but esp when I stand for long&stress. Why?
Venous insufficiency: Most people will get some swelling of the feet on prolonged standing. If the venous return is less than optimal, more water will accumulate in the dependent parts. Try reducing your salt intake to see if that helps. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. ...Read more

Avoid high salt i.e. Bread and rolls, cured and processed meat, pizza, pickles, & fast food. ...Read more
