Doctor insights on:
Concerned about edd accuracy. Is it possible for ultrasound measurements in the first try to be a month off? All of my edds have matched through preg.
Yes: If your doctor or technician made an error on your first tri ultrasound, then it would be possible for your edd to be wrong. If ur saying that every us you had after your 1st tri us agreed with each other and gave a different edd, consider discussing with ur doc to have edd changed. 1st tri us are most accurate, but you are right to suggest that person can make a mistake while performing. ...Read more
My LMP 4/27. At 5w5d (6/23) I was given edd of 2/17. At my "20wk" scan I was told to be 20w2d which doesn't match with the EDD. Which one should I use?
EDC: The earlier an ultrasound is done the more accurate it is, therefore go with the 2/17 due date. ...Read more
That is quite common: As women don't always ovulate on exactly day 14 of their cycle. Sometimes it can be 5 days earlier or later. As long as your Baby looks fine on ultrasound, and you are not having vaginal bleeding, especially if you have nausea and other symptoms of pregnancy, everything is likely totally normal. Don't forget to take your folic acid, vitamin D and your prenatal vitamins. Stay hydrated & get fluvax ...Read more

This is my 1st pregnancy I'm just curious on why my LMP august17 dsnt match up with my u/s due date june 5 I have norm cycles shouldn't it be may 25?
An early ultrasound: If done properly is very accurate for dating, the only way to know exactly when u are due is to know exactly when u conceived which most women do not unless u are doing infertilty or have had just one intercourse. ...Read more
Ultrasound dating: It depends on the timing of ultrasound. First trimester ultrasound is accurate within 5-7 days. 2nd trimester ultrasound has accuracy of +/_ 2 weeks. Lmp dating also assumes a 28 day cycle. There is no test that can date conception more accurately than a 1 week window. Due date is based on LMP unless us off by more than 1 week 1st trimester or 2 weeks in 2nd. ...Read more

If a sonogram due date matches LMP due date, does that mean ovulation was right on time of regular cycle, and not earlier?
Depends: If at least two sonograms were done from 6-9 weeks that correlate, I would say your dates are +/- 1 day and you could pinpoint ovulation with that accuracy. If you only had one sonogram in that range it would maybe be +/- 3days. Other factors are the interpretation by the OB person. Did the sono agree exactly or within some "tolerance" range. Comments above are for "right on" dating. ...Read more
How accurate is a transvaginal ultrasound for determining exact due date. I was due may 28 2012. But it didn't match up with suspected time of ovulati?
Should I refuse to let them stop labor? I'm pregnant with my first child and my due date is may 27th according to doctor. According to all my ultrasounds my due date is may 18th, also I know the exact day I got pregnant and it matches the may 18th due date
Wow.: Wow. You are asking doctors who have never met or examined you on an internet site if you should refuse recommended medical care. As you are already aware, there is not certainty if the baby's lungs have developed enough at this point. If you adamantly disagree with your doctor's medical recommendations, then you could request that the doctor help to arrange for a second opinion by another obstetrician. However, as a woman who has had babies, I can tell you that there is often a struggle between the woman wanting to be delivered earlier and the doctor who is wants to wait closer to term to allow for full development of the baby. ...Read more

Healthy baby: Most likely, it means you have a healthy baby. In general babies born after 34 weeks (about 6 weeks before the EDD) tend to well, usually, without any major support from the Neonatologist. Of course, they are at higher risk for pre-term issues (RDS: Respiratory Distress Syndrome, NEC: Necrotizing Enterocolitis, feeding and temperature regulation issues, etc...). Pregnancy weeks: The number of average total weeks from last period is 40 weeks to due date. If someone conceives 2 weeks after menstrual period that means she will conceive about 38 weeks later. The standard when stating how pregnant you are is determined from the last menstrual period however. Example : if you conceived 8 weeks ago you would be called 10 weeks pregnant. ...Read more

If multiple early ultrasounds & subsequent ultrasounds yield the same edd is it possible for them to be 4 weeks off (4 weeks further ahead)?
Well: Lets say it is low probability. Early on, in the first trimester, a measurement called the crown-rump length is taken. This is a head to baby's rump measurement. This is so accurate that if the due date from the last period is more than 5 days off the ultrasound due date is used. Behaving multiple confirming scans is even more reassuring that the due date is accurate. Good luck. ...Read more
EDD was January 2 going by LMP. Then changed to January 12 by early u/s. Which should I trust? Two early u/s 13 days apart first one 8w1d then 9w5d
The ultrasound: An ultrasound at 8 weeks and 1 day would be accurate to within about 7 days or less. Since the due date by the ultrasound is of 10 days from that based on your LMP, the best estimate would be the one from the first ultrasound, the earlier scan is best. Once a date is decided it is not correct to change it. A later ultrasound would be less accurate and would not be a reason to change the date. ...Read more
2 ultrasounds. One at 11w1d crl 44mm. One at 12w1d crl 56.3mm. Edd 18 august. If I ovulted 5th december would these crl mesurments be different?
More information: If your due date is 8/18/13. Your average conception date is 11/25/12. If your conception date was 12/5/12, then your edd would be 8/28/13. Without the dates of your ultrasounds at 11w1d and 12w1d, it's hard to answer your question. If you have the dates of those ultrasounds, that would help answer your question. Reasonably Sure: The early ultrasound confirms your LMP of 5/11. This gives an edc of 2/15 which is almost exactly what your 10 week ultrasound shows. This means, if your new partner was your only "exposure" after your lmp, he would be the father. You would have ovulated approximately around 5/25, so a partner before your menstrual cycle, doesn't have a chance of being the father. I hope that helps. ...Read more

No, no, and no: If one has an u/s that says 9weeks 6days pregnant, then just count backwards 9weeks 6days from the day of the u/s, to get the LMP estimate. A 9week 6day u/s is pretty good at setting the pregnancy-related dates. ...Read more
Not always true: Early in fetal life all babies grow at the same rate. The longer into the pregnancy the more each baby grows slightly differently. Therefore, early in pregnnacy we can measure the size of a baby and very accurately predict the due date. Later on though, the sonographic measurements less accurately predict the due date. ...Read more
