Ectopic Pregnancy Ovarian Cancer
Common vs. rare: At 27 years of age, ovarian cancer is very rare. The more common cause of a positive pregnancy test is pregnancy itself. Sometimes a pregnancy can implant on an ovary (ectopic pregnancy). If an ultrasound does not show a pregnancy, it is worth a look at the ovaries. Ovaries are the source of egg cells, and a growth there could theoretically cause an elevation in HCG (pregnancy hormone). ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Cancer is a group of diseases that is characterized by uncontrolled cell growth leading to invasion of surrounding tissues that spread to other parts of the body. Cancer can begin anywhere in the body and is usually related to one or more genetic mutations that allow normal cells to become malignant by interfering with internal cellular control mechanisms, such as programmed cell death or by preventing ...Read more
In addition to cancer and an ectopic pregnancy, what would be a reason to get your ovaries removed?
Yes: Some patients have surgery to explore and/or attempt to reduce or cure symptomatic disease. Mris aren't always terribly useful for ovarian cancers but are sometimes helpful when surgery isn't a great option. The ca125 tumor marker can often be informative as well but isn't very specific to ovarian cancer and may be falsely elevated. Conservative approaches are best until the pregnancy is finished. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Is there any evidence that links pregnancy-related hormone therapy treatments with increased risk of ovarian cancer?
Tough question: By this i assume you mean for in vitro vertilization. Any hormone manipulation has a potential for side effects. Increased Estrogens increases the risk of breast and cervical cancer, but lower estrogen increases risks of ovary and uterus--also influenced by Progesterone and other hormones. This is not a straight forward topic, as there are many studies that contradict each other. ...Read more
Can ovarian cancer be caused by hormones like some breast cancers? I had a false-positive pregnancy test and have ovarian cancer.
No: In all normal pregnancies there is a cyst that develops in one ovary called the corpus luteum cyst. This cyst supports the early pregnancy and goes away on its own. Sometimes a "cyst" seen in or near the ovary does represent an ectopic pregnancy (most often in the fallopian tube". This is often accompanied by pain and bleeding. ...Read more
A pregnancy test: The pain associated with an ovarian cyst can be indistinguishable from an ectopic (or tubal)pregnancy. A negative pregnancy test however, effectively rules out an ectopic pregancy. If the pregancy test is positive, an ultrasound is needed to be certain that the developing baby is located inside the uterus and not in the fallopian tube (which connects the ovaries to the uterus). ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

This cancer is typically silent, producing little or no symptoms till it spreads, first into the pelvic area and later into the peritoneal cavity leading to fluid accumulation(ascites) which is often the first symptom. Despite its late presentation, there is a reasonable treatment for it, with some long term survivors even ...Read more

According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more
