Echocardiogram Vs Nuclear Stress Test
Had echocardiogram, nuclear stress test w cardiolite, EKG and 30 day holter. Does the echo and nuclear test rule out CAD or any potential blockages?
Stress affects most people in some way. Acute (sudden, short-term) stress leads to rapid changes throughout the body. Almost all body systems (the heart and blood vessels, immune system, lungs, digestive system, sensory organs, and brain) gear up to meet perceived danger. These stress responses could prove beneficial in a critical, life-or-death situation. Over time, however, repeated stressful situations put a strain on the body that may contribute to physical and psychological problems. Chronic (long-term) stress can have real health consequences and should be addressed like any other health concern. Fortunately, research is showing that lifestyle changes and stress-reduction techniques can help people learn ...Read more
Depends on situation: Nuclear stress test involves looking at perfusion of heart for defective areas representing coronary artery disease looking for areas of permanent damage versus areas that are reversible possible related to area of coronary narrowing. Coronary ct angiogram looks at anatomy of coronary arteries looking for areas of narrowing and blockage.Answer depends on information physician needs and insurance. ...Read more
Is nuclear stress testing or echo more accurate for calculating ejection fraction? Nuclear says 67 percent echo says 48.
Yes: yes unless they use different medicineGet a more detailed answer ›
nuclear stress: All tests have sensitivity and specificity and each lab has its own data. In the best labs these values for this test are >85% sens/spec., there are many technical factors. We choose tests by the information needed and the best test o get us what we need to know. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
A screening test: Stress tests are largely done to identify patients at risk for heart attacks. For patients who cannot exercise due to arthritis or other reasons, Dobutamine is a drug that will mimic exercise, and allow a stress test to be done. It is not as good as exercise, but it is a reasonable alternative if exercise is not possible. ...Read more
Normal D-Dimer lab, cardiac echo shows mild RCA blockage , physican ordered a nuclear stress test . I am a Paramedic ,can you code with a stress test?
Unlikely: The long answer is that you have a stressful job and you are frequently in situations that cause emotional and physical stress. You should be fine. They will be monitoring you during the test. Also, if the test were that risky, we would not do it so often. Even if you do code. You will be on a monitor in a medical facility with the ability to resuscitate. ...Read more
Stress Test: That uses a radioactive tracer to evaluate blood flow in the coronary arteries. Images are taken at peak exercise and at rest . These images are able to compare blood flow to the heart in specific territories supplied by each coronary artery and any flow disparity would be consistent with a potential blockage in that artery. ...Read more
Spect images demonstrate inferior and apical reversibility from my nuclear stress test. Is a cardiac catherization must be done?
Not enough data...: Inferior ; apical reversibility means there is some ischemia in those regions. Without seeing the images it is difficult to tell how much. If there is very mild ischemia, some cardiologists may decide to do medical management (only medicines). If there is any significant amount of ischemia, cardiac catheterization is usually done. Again, it depends on the clinical scenario..Not enough data. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Radiation exposure: There most certainly is radiation exposure with nuclear cardiology stress testing whether it is with thallium, sestamibi, or any of the pet imaging agents. The exposure is minimal but real and the risk vs. Benefit to the patient needs to be considered before ordering the study. Pregnant women should not have these studies and young women can have a very small but increased risk of breast cancer. ...Read moreSee 14 more doctor answers
Low vs ?Higher Value: Stress tests only capable of detecting very advanced disease, ?chances of heart attack & do nothing to solve issues (i quit doing these 1995). Angiogram with PTCA option has risks (usually small) but can see problems & offers opportunity to open arteries & decrease symptoms at same time. The bigger issues are optimizing lipoproteins (nmr particle test), hba1c & bp, etc. To ??? disease progression. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Yes...: Yes...Nuclear stress tests can have false positive results. There are different types of nuclear stress tests. There is treadmill vs. Pharmacologic and there is spect vs. Pet. There are also many different tracers such as thallium or technetium for spect and ammonia or rubidium for pet. Each type of test has its own possible pitfalls. Artifacts are often the case of false positive. ...Read more
Stress test : This is a chemical stress test. You will be given a medication and then pet scan of your heart will be done to evaluate the blood flow in different parts of the heart. If there is any significant blockage, it will show up as a defect in the images. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
I had nuclear stress study done & interpretation states: Sm reversible ischemia, inferior wall. Ejection fraction 51%. is heart cath needed?
Checks heart functio: Thallium is a radioactive (minimally) isotope that is used to study the pumping capability of the heart, usually after heart attack or prior to surgery in someone with cardiac disease. Sometimes it's done simply to ensure proper cardiac capability in someone with risk factors or prior heart issues. It involves mild to increasing exercise to "stress" the heart and assess function under effort! ...Read more
I have had regular stress test. Nuclear stress test echocardiogram and heart catherization. All normal what's chance missed blockage or pulm htn?
A stress test is a cardiac test which can include walking on a treadmill and monitoring your heart while you are walking. They can also inject you with a nuclear material and do a more comprehensive scan on your heart to check for blockage. They can also do a chemical stress test which omits the need to ...Read more
