Loud gurgling noises that go constantly before and after eating. I also have constipation which im taking a laxative for. What could be the cause? Help
Before self-treating: Doctors define constipation as stools less frequently than once every 3-4 days. Patients feel they are "constipated" when passing hard or small volume stool, or they feel full ; bloated. Had an x-ray to show you're not blocked? We don't know if your gut is sluggish or your rectum works correctly--these can be tested for (sitz marker study ; anal manometry, respectively). See a GI specialist. ...Read more

Sure. Why question?: The information you provided is insufficient to give you an educated guess, but you have raised several issues: 1) on what basis do you eliminate anything (corn, gluten, dairy) from your diet & what do you hope to gain from doing so? 2) why do you need a laxative & what evaluation have you had? 3) what underlying meds are you taking /diseases you have (autoimmune, diabetes...). ...Read more

24 yr f, always only had 1 bm every 3-4 wk still have to take laxitive, eat only healthy, +fobt, colonscopy only showed hemerrhoids, what could it be?
Chronic constipation: As hard as it is to believe, if this has been your lifelong pattern, it is the pattern you are stuck with. If you want to go more frequently (you didn't mention any discomfort) you should use a blend of laxatives including fiber -30grams/day- a stool softener, an osmotic and perhaps a mild stimulant. Drink 8 glasses of water/day and exercise. If no one has checked TSH it is a consideration. ...Read more

I had a colonscopy 8 days ago and have had no movement, is this normal I have used a laxitive tea that worked very well in the past with no help
My wife has had a pain in her stomach for 24 he's now that she describes as knots. We have tried a laxitive with no relief and it seems pain is worse?
Medical exam needed.: Understandably you are concerned for your wife, yet without further history & medical exam any proposed answer for her situation is but a guess. Pain lasting greater than 24 hours without an obvious cause bears closer examination--especially since you have attempted to self treat for constipation in a reasonable manner for probably the most common cause for abdominal discomfort. Call your md. ...Read more
My two year old found and ate a bit of a choco laxitive will she be ok? She weighs about 26lbs and doesn't have a problem going to the bathroom she is asleep and seems fine but im very worried
Anytime a child eats or drinks something they should not have such as a medication, cleaner, or non-food item, it's a good idea to place a call to the poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. They have the most up-to-date information and in fact are one of the resources emergency room doctors use when a child comes in sick because of something non-food related they ate. They can often tell you whether you need to worry or not and what to do. The good news is that odds are, your child will just have loose stools for a day or two, but it's worth placing the call since it's better to be safe than sorry.

No bm/2+ wks, normal is 1 bm every 2-3 wks. Some discomfort, not using laxitive that cause bad pain stool sftner take 4+ days. No bm w/ fiber, advice?
Try Miralax (polyethylene glycol): Transit time through your colon must be very slow and your colon reabsorbs water making the stool firm and hard. Fiber may only bulk things up worse if you have slow transit time. Try miralax, (polyethylene glycol) over the counter, as it works by keeping water in the stool making it easier to move through and keeping the stools soft. ...Read more

Hi im currentlly have been taking miralax (polyethylene glycol) for about two 3 days but I don't feel like its helping is it dangerous to try another type of laxitive?
Let's define problem: Doctors define constipation as stools less frequently than once every 3-4 days. Patients feel they are "constipated" when passing hard or small volume stool, or they feel full & bloated. Are your symptoms acute or chronic? Blocked? Gut sluggish or is your rectum dysfunctional? Trauma, bleeding, pain, weight loss, history of colitis/infection? Don't keep self medicating--ask your doctor for help. ...Read more
My doctor prescribed me cvs senna laxitives 8.6 mg. Is this laxitive going to be gentle? Or really make me run to the bathroom?
If I don't take a laxitive I will go 7 days without a bowel movement. How do I get more bowel movements?
Dx with cdiff last week & started flagyl. No bowel movements at all in 5 days, is it ok to take laxitive with cdiff?
Questionable C. diff: These seems quite unusual, because C. diff is characterized by LOADS of diarrhea. I wonder if you are eating and drinking? Also if you have abdominal pain or fevers - which would mean you need to see a doctor right away. Rarely C. diff can cause an 'ileus' but seems unlikely. If you want to try the laxative, that would be fine - there shouldn't be any interaction with the metronidazole you're on. ...Read more
