Lots of reasons: Lots of things can rob you of an appetite. In addition to the psychologic issues described in the previous answer, please consider organic pathology like: peptic ulcer, gastroparesis (delayed stomach emptying), biliary dyspepsia (gallstones, biliary spasm), pancreatitis, bacterial overgrowth (sibo), central (brain)-related problems, inflammatory bowel, malabsorption, gynecologic issues, uti, more. ...Read more

A therapist: You may need a new pcm, some aren't familiar enough or comfortable treating eating disorders to help. A counselor will, especially if you choose one who has expertise in treating eating disorders. I don't think medications are the mainstay of treatment. Those at risk are: Those with what are called predisposing factors (female, genetic load, cultural). Those don't necessarily make it happen. Problems such as adolescent body image, media and pressure to be thin, poor eating habits, being overweight, abuse especially sexually, harsh criticism from family about weight all contribute.
