Unless it is edible: Rice paper, then it certainly is not normal. Pica is eating materials that have no nutritional value. See your physician to determine if a nutritional deficiency is contributing to eating paper. If it isn't then please see a psychologist for therapy. This is a dangerous behavior because it could cause a bezoar & because of chemicals used to process many paper products. ...Read more
Not life threatening: BUT a lot of chemicals in most paper that should not be ingested regularly or in large quantities. Bleaching agents, sizing agents, chalk, and finishing agents, to name a few. Specialty papers (toilet or facial tissue included) can contain perfumes, softening agents, dyes and other pigments. While there is some caloric value to cellulose, it is best to stick with food. ...Read more
Could be dangerous: Most paper contains traces of dioxin, a byproduct of bleaching with chlorine. Dioxin is a carcinogen and an extremely toxic chemical. It is not considered hazardous to touch these products, but it is possible that if you "eat paper" even without swallowing that some of the dioxins will be absorbed into your body. I would not take this chance. Unbleached paper is relatively safe. See comment:. ...Read more

I need to stop eating paper please help I have fybermyalgia n I take cymbalta (duloxetine) and now I eat paper?
I eat paper. I'm 20 and 7 months pregnant so I'm worrying about my son and the affect it'll have on him. I've always been severely anaemic & eaten it.
I am not sure: That the paper is as bad as the underlying nutritional deficiencies the paper is trying to replace. This is likely pica, as u have been told. People used to go for dirt, now it's more baking soda, corn starch or ice mostly. The only thing to do is use iron, see if this relieves it. Do you have an appetite otherwise? Do you sleep well? These are important. Good luck. ...Read more

Seek consultation: As previously noted this can reflect developmental issues, but also sometimes medical issues. Its more commonly seen in children. Safe.: Paper is generally nothing more than Cellulose and some stabilizing agents. Unless you are eating a lot routinely, or eating some specialty paper, I do not see any significant health hazard. The speed with you you eat it may be correlated with your risk of a paper cut. That would hurt. ...Read more

I'm doing this research paper on acne and I want to know the causes of acne like hormonal wise and chemicals that we put on our face and eat and stress?
Be discerning: Despite a great deal of talk, much less is known about acne than people will claim, and much of what you read about putative causes is untrue, often simply made up. I tell people with acne to manage it rather than trying to identify and remove causes; the one exception is women who may have a hormonal problem such as poly cystic ovaries. ...Read more

Levothyroxine/ Fiber: Raisin Bran would be considered a high fiber food. Foods high in fiber could reduce the absorption of levothyroxine from your GI tract. You have my sympathy: You're being asked to take time in which you could be learning real, marketable skills to write about the politics of how we perceive food choices and obesity. This itself might be worth understanding, but the term "demonization" usually indicates a left-wing and nonscientific political agenda. To be successful, you need to find out the prejudices of your grader. ...Read more

Hi! Could you perhaps explain to me why diets are generally ineffective? It's for my research paper.
Yes: Many diets do not teach the person about lifestyle changes and long lasting changes that they can incorporate into their everyday life. Many go on crash diets with radical changes that cant be sustained over time. A lifestyle change would be to eat more fruits and vegetables and less fried and fatty foods. That is an attainable goal that could result in a more permanent weight loss. ...Read more
