Easy Zucchini Bread
Recipe...: This is my first health tap recipe.. Cut the sweet potatoes the size of french fries. (the thinned you cut them, . The faster they cook.) put them in a plastic bag with some olive oil and shake to coat them. (you can use a bowl if you wish.) bake in a 400 degree oven until done. Season to taste and enjoy. ...Read more
Really bloated after pizza and tortillas. Rarely after whole grain bread baked at healthfood store. Is cause gmo or white flour?
Sure, they're great!: Beans (legumes) are considered both a vegetable & a protein, & appear twice on the USDA Food Guide Pyramid. Beans have a low calorie count but pack a high fiber content. They help lower cholesterol, & are high in antioxidants, protein, B vitamins, iron, magnesium, potassium, copper, zinc. When eaten regularly they can promote a healthy heart & the phytochemicals in beans may reduce some cancers. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Is it healthier to eat junk foods (eg. fried foods, potato chips, candy) occasionally or avoid them altogether?
Agree w' : Dr Fairchild. Many of the junk foods however contain ingredients that are addictive (corn syrup). For some people, when they eat a little they can't stop or they will eat more the next day and the cravings will continue. If once you take a little, you have trouble stopping or find that within a few days you are taking a little more, try to stay clear you may be addicted to something in the junk. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Is gluten free pasta ( maize starch, soy flour, potato starch and rice starch)with about 40 gm carbohydrates good for cholesterol ?
Does not matter: Since 90% of the cholesterol is produced by the body regardless of your diet, the above would not noticeably affect your cholesterol level. Do note that too much carb may not be good for your health. I don't believe extreme diet does anyone any good. Just eat anything in moderation and exercise at least 3 hrs a week will likely keep you in better shape. ...Read more
Yes, yes &: Not nearly as healthy as you would think. There are other grains that are healthier, like rye for example , and others that are a lot better than whole wheat. If your choices were whole wheat or white i'd pick the whole wheat, but just about only then. ...Read more
I tested positive to turkey, potato, sweet potato, rice, rye, pecans, crab, shrimp. Allergist eliminated wheat and corn to feel better. Correlation?
Test v reaction: The presence of a positive skin test to food only means sensitization and not necessarily causing an allergic reaction to that food. The larger the size of the ST,, the more likely a reaction would occur. If you feel better with elimination of corn and wheat, you should avoid them. A double-blind food challenge may be in order. Were ST to wheat & corn strongly positive? ...Read more
Whole wheat pancakes: Pancakes themselves are just simple sugars (even "whole wheat" pancakes are not complex carbohydrates truthfully) with liquid sugar (syrup) and fat (butter) added. So pancakes are a bad nutritional choice made worse. And we can't rescue any health value by adding things like blueberries or cranberries. If you make them with psyllium husk added, you can at least get some fiber in there. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
No one knows: The "received wisdom" is that whole-grain bread is healthier than the very processed stuff. It's tastier and more fun to eat. It does change the composition of stool in the intestine and thus the bacterial products. If you believed every obscure-journal claim, you'd be reading uncritically -- and hard-and-clear results -- especially animal studies -- are conspicuously absent. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Iam gluten free gaining weight why if i avoid all bread items i eat chicken beans beef along side salad no dressing rice or corn cereal fruits?
Gaining weight: That's great that you are not consuming a lot of carbs and are watching your diet. You also need to look at the overall quantity (and calories) of what you are eating as well. Are you exercising too? Without physical activity (cardio), it is hard to lose weight. You have to burn more calories than you are consuming. You might be doing this already and have another reason for weight gain. ...Read more
My kids love to snack on fresh veggies like cucumber, tomato, carrot, and pepper but refuse cooked veggies like peas or string beans. This sufficient?
Content matters: In general whole wheat is preferred to processed wheat. This can be found in bread but nowadays a lot of the products you mentioned are available in wheat versions (i personally like several multigrain versions of popular cereals). ...Read more
Food Question: Both of these breads are just a bit better for your health than bleached flour breads but, just barely. They are still 100% carbohydrate calories and some brands actually also contain honey or other sugars to add taste. Carbohydrate calories should be taken in moderation and be no more than 25% of your total calories. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
