Dr. Tony Ho Dr. Ho
1 doctor agreed:

Depends: Acute retroviral syndrome occurs usually 1-4 weeks from exposure, and can last a couple of weeks; this is highly nonspecific with just fevers, chills, and myalgias, and often confused with flu or other viral illness. Once that is gone, the next manifestation is usually several years down the road with an opportunistic infection. ...Read more

Does the early symptoms of HIV last more than 4months?

Early HIV...: Early vs late symptoms of HIV ; not how us doctors think-we look at the infection as primary infection. Assuming primary infection, this may last from 7to 14 days, and mimicked the flu, with a possible pharyngitis and rash. If the primary infection is aggressive, complications such as a bacterial infection, or else a post- infectious "viral syndrome" may be at play. Discuss your sx with you doc. ...Read more

Hello Doctor,

I've been stressing about my recent unprotected sex incidence. I want to know what's the most obvious early symptoms of HIV? Thanks

Get tested: If you don't get tested, you're simply going to obsess over every little change or sensation in your body. One of the new assays will give you reliable information after a month. If you had a very high-risk exposure (i.e., unprotected anal penetration by a non-treated HIV-positive man, or similar), ask about post-exposure prophylaxis. Otherwise, get tested and cherish the fact you shared love. ...Read more

What symptoms would one have if he had early hiv?

Highly variable: Might look like infectious mononucleosis, acute flu-like syndrome, encephalitis, or a wide variety of other presentations.
