The brown recluse (Loxoceles reclusa) can cause a variety of symptoms after a bite, however, a lot of the time, the bite is minor. If the area is becoming painful, oozing, blistering, or necrotic (black dead tissue), or if you have any systemic signs like nausea, vomiting, fevers, muscle pain or other problems, then you should see a physician ASAP.

What are the consequences of brown recluse spider bite in a child?

Tissue death

Brown_recluse_spider
Brown recluse venom causes the tissue it touches to die, resulting first in the classic "red, white, and blue" sore, and then a painful ulceration of the skin. This can be very serious. See a doctor right away.

What is the definition or description of: Brown recluse spider?

Violin/Brown Recluse

Loxosceles_reclusa_adult_male_4
Three pairs of eyes instead of the usual four makes the identification of the spider, the eyes making the face look like a human skull.Treatment includes Dapsone. Bites often get misdiagnosed, and are frequently bacterial infections like MRSA. Brown recluse venom is a vasoconstrictor, and nitroglycerin causes vasodilation and theoretically can prevent necrosis. Treat sooner rather than later!

How is the brown recluse spider bite treated?

Clean & ice

Antibiotics
The wound is cleaned and ice packs may be applied. An effected extremity is elevated. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications may be used. Ulceration may sometimes be treated or prevented with Dapsone. A tetanus shot may be required. Antibiotics may be necessary if the wound becomes infected. Large ulcerations could require debridment.

How do people treat brown recluse spider bite?

NOT surgery

Blood
The drug dapsone is often advocated, but there is no firm evidence that it helps. Nitroglycerine patches may be effective; brown recluse venom constricts blood vessels and nitroglycerin dilates them, but again, no proof that it helps. Surgery is ineffective and may actually worsen the outcome.
