Ear Pain When Blowing Nose
What can I do to stop my ear pain when I blow my nose. I have a bad cold and cannot blow my nose as my right ear hurts a lot?
If you open your mouth slightly when you blow your nose, you will not get the pressure on the eustachian tube and thus no pain.
Try it. ...Read more
Nope: That is a sign that you are increasing the inner ear pressure when you blow your nose. The nose connects to the inner ear via the eustachian tube. This tube is what allows pressure to balance and is responsible for "popping" of the ears. What you describe is a similar method to how scuba divers equalize the pressure under water. ...Read more

Virus or Sinusitis: You have a virus or sinus infection. If your symptoms just started, you don't have any significant fever (less than 100 degrees fahrenheit) and tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin makes your feel better, you might want to wait it out. If your symptoms worse, or you have fever, see your doctor. The ear pain could be an ear infection from the sinus problem, or just swelling. You have to see your doctor to find out. ...Read more

Have a slight cold. Tonight I held one nostril closed and blew to try and clear other nostril and had immediate ear pain on the clogged side.?
With blowing your nostrils in this manner, the concern is that by doing so, you have opened up the Eustachian tube and added air to the canal which opens up on the inside of your eardrum. This can not only be painful, but could result in bursting of your eardrum.
See a doctor who can evaluate your eardrum. ...Read more
Possibly: Pain is not a common feature of allergies. If however, the pain is due from congestion (that is, a 'pressure' like pain), than allergies certainly could be the cause. One sided pain is more often infection. ...Read more
Possibly: Otrivin (xylometazoline) is a decongestant that will shrink clogged nasal passages. If there is no cold or facial congestion, it will not have much effect. Swallowing helps open the passageways and clear the ears, so a good way to help your infant avoid ear pain is to make sure he's hungry by the time the airplane descends, and continuously feed from a bottle during descent. ...Read more
Having some clicking in ears when yawning. Trying to pop ears manually while exhaling holding nose. Feels like fluid but not popping. No ear pain?
Eustachian tube dyfx: When you are yawning the popping you are having is caused by air rushing into the ear when your eustachian tube is opening. The eustachian tube is a tube that connects your ear to your throat and opens naturally when you yawn or swallow. Try popping your ears by plugging your nose and blowing hard. Your ears should pop open. This is called a valsalva maneuver and is very effective. ...Read more

Not enough info: Question is not Clearly stated! Do you mean fluid was removed from the band, if so, was it done on bedside (usually) with needle aspiration from the port; then these symptoms are not related to that. If it was done under anesthesia (I don't expect so) then tube used for anesthesia can cause sore throat or ear ache. Please call your surgeon and discuss these symptoms. ...Read more
I'm coughing sneezing runny nose have body aches and ear pain thought it was allergy a but only getting worse have state testing tomorrow what do I do?
Need to be evaluated: With the pressure in the ear the possibility of an ear infection or fluid buildup in your ear cannot be ruled out. Generalized body aches and congestion might also indicate an upper respiratory infection. I am afraid you will need to postpone or be excused from testing. You did not mention a fever and if you have a virus you are at risk for suboptimal testing and you can infect others. See you DR. ...Read more

Hard to say: The limited info is not enough to comment. If the ear fluid has been a constant battle (6-9m) and problems with speech& language are evident, tubes would be an initial approach. The mouth breathing is both a tonsils & adenoids problem. The best incite would be known by the docs that know all the features of the case. ...Read more
