It lasts maximum 2-3 weeks and as the infection goes away (with antibiotics usually) the lymph nodes disappear. Outside this scenario, I would be worried and demand further investigation (ct is appropriate, a blood smear and CBC with differential, as well as a bmp with enzymes markers analysis) up to an excision biopy. ...Read more

Need an exam: It's possible you have an infection in the ear canal or behind the ear drum. However your symptoms are somewhat atypical for these causes. It's possible the source of your pain is somewhere else in the in the pharynx and is being "referred" to the ear area. You need to see your physician as soon as possible. If the cause isn't apparent you need to see an ENT specialist.
