It lasts maximum 2-3 weeks and as the infection goes away (with antibiotics usually) the lymph nodes disappear. It's possible you have an infection in the ear canal or behind the ear drum. However your symptoms are somewhat atypical for these causes. It's possible the source of your pain is somewhere else in the in the pharynx and is being "referred" to the ear area. You need to see your physician as soon as possible.
