Ear lobe: If this is near a piercing, do not use your earrings. You need to see a clinician so that a culture can be taken and so you can be placed on empirical antibiotics. Assess for Infection: 17 yr old; redness, swelling, yellow crust at earring hole. This can be due to infection or a reaction to metal in earrings. Otherwise do not wear earrings x 3-4 days, cleanse area with soap/water, change to hypoallergenic earrings. ...Read more
Ears pierced two weeks ago, I got hit in the ear lobe. Now my ear red and swollen. No discharge. Could it be infected? Or too soon to tell?
TakeOutTheHardware!!: Doesn't matter. Take out the post & back set and let everything heal. You may need to get it pierced again, but that's better than risking a serious infection or a big hassle trying to get the post out later. If nothing gets better after taking everything out, then it is probably infected & will need to be seen by a doctor. Ear infections that spread beyond the earlobe can get into the cartilage: BAD ...Read more

Possibly allergy: Since the redness and swelling involve both ear lobes, infection or cellulitis is less likely, unless there is reason to think otherwise. Allergy, possibly to something he consumed before going to bed or bug bites may cause such a reaction. If there are no bumps, and remains non tender without any systemic symptoms, I would try OTC anti allergy medicine and observe. ...Read more
