Waking up with ear pain similar to an ear infection, when sleeping on that side. It goes away after sleeping on other side. Why?
Could be TMJ?: See your doctor. This could be an ear issue, or more likely, perhaps a joint issue at the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) which is right in front of the year. This joint can hurt at nighttime for several reasons including teeth grinding, clenching, or occlusion issues. ...Read more
Not likely: In general, tonsillitis can cause obstructive symptoms in the throat, not the nose. For the nose, the adenoids (upper throat, behind the nose) can cause nasal obstruction. A nasal septum deviation or turbinate enlargement is very likely to contribute to nasal blockage. Adenoids can contribute to ear infections. Tonsil and adenoid problems can contribute to sleep apnea problems. See an ent. ...Read more
Can I use ciprofloxacin ophthalmic. 3% that was prescribed for my 2yr old eyes in her ear. She's getting an ear infection can't sleep.
No: Drops used to treat ear infection only work if your daughter if she has tubes in her ears or if she has an external otitis (infection in the ear canal, not the middle ear.) if she has tubes in, you can't use the ophthalmic solution in the middle ear, because the ph of the solution is not right for that area. If no tubes and she has a middle ear infection to where she can't sleep, oral antibiotics. ...Read more

My daughter just had her 2 month shots. She has 2 ear infections. She won't eat last she ate was at 3 this morning. Screaming till sleep I'm worried?
Not eating, drinking: If your baby is only 2 months old and not eating (and presumably not drinking either) she could easily become dehydrated. If she has a fever also, this will increase the difficulty. Babies do sometimes get fevers with immunizations, but if crying extensively and not taking anything in, she should be seen. Call your pediatrician -- s/he may want to meet you in er. Be well, . ...Read more

My 5 month old had an ear infection got amoxicillin had reaction stopped after 5 days and now she will not sleep at night any idea why?
Rarely needs surgery: True fluid and hearing loss most often will clear on its own with decongestants and treatment for whatever led to the fluid in the first place (uri, sinusitis, allergy). This can be combined with holding your nose and blowing into the nose trying to "pop" your ears. Rarely fluid won't clear and adults can have it drained under a local or topical anesthetic. Fluid is often misdiagnosed - watch out! ...Read more
