Have had chronic earache for 3 days and ear drops not working. The pain is unbearable and I have been taking painkillers every 2 hours to help ease it?
Ear infection: If you have not been using qtips in your ear for wax removal it is a middle ear infection with pressure building up. You need to see pcp as an emergency visit now. If you have been cleaning , you may have caused an infection in canal and may have left part of the qtip in your canal and started a severe infection which now involves drum and middle ear like i saw about 6 wks ago! get to pcp now! ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Do I have a perforated ear drum? I have had chronic earaches since i was a kid. Lately I have noticed that i cannot hear well out of my left ear, and I do hear the ocean sound. I put some ear drops in ( left over from my last doctor visit), but it hasn't
High : High pressures generated from a valsalva maneuver that you performed could generate the type of sound that you described if you had a perforation. Also, if you tasted your eardrops that could be an indirect sign of perforation as a pathway from your ear canal, through a perforation, down the eustacian tube, and into the back of your throat. If you haven't seen an ent, it may be wise to have this checked, get a hearing test, and discuss options for possible corrective surgery if you have a perforation, or other appropriate tympanomastoid surgery depending on the severity of the problem. ...Read more
Severe ear infection: This could be a simple outer ear infection (otitis externa) with extension to the auricle, or an acute mastoiditis (severe middle ear infection with spread to the surrounding mastoid bone) which usually causes severe tenderness behind the ear and inside the ear. Whichever the diagnosis, the symptoms you described sound worrisome and really require an immediate intervention. ...Read more
My 37 year old is screaming with ear ache has been to two doctors today. Only gave her ear drops. What shall i do?
Different/more meds.: I am not sure why he is having so much pain--inner ear infection usually not intensely painful. Swimmer's ear can be quite painful. I am not sure what drops he got, but must find out what is causing his his pain. There is "novacaine drops" which can help with pain fast. Tmj can also cause pain, so is shingle. Add motrin/tylenol which may help, and re-consult doc as soon as you need to. Good luck. ...Read more

My 3 years child is suffering from ear pain. He is complaining pain in left ear after every 3 to 4 hours. Kindly suggests ear drops?
Look in the ear first: You can buy a cheap otoscope at the pharmacy and looked directly in the ear at the eardrum. For a three-year-old I would wonder first of all do they have an infection. Then I would have a question of a foreign body. So I suggest you don't put anything in his ear until you know what the air looks like. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

My 4 years son has an ear pain for more than 3 hours, he also has cold and cough... Could you please advise if we can take amoxicillin ear drops?
No: There is no such thing as Amoxicillin ear drops. Amoxicillin is an oral antibiotic. It is not unusual to get ear pain with an upper respiratory infection. Check for fever. Generally ear pain will resolve within 24 hours. Give him a pain reliever. If he starts running high fevers or pain does not resolve, than call his doctor to be seen. ...Read more

Awful ear pain, full of fluid, feels so full and swollen behind my ear. Can I still continue taking soldrin otico ear drops or should I stop now?
See ear specialist: You did not mention how your ear started to hurt. Do you have swimmer's ear, or cold symptoms and ear pain from the inside? Soldering optic is to relieve pain and inflammation by contact. It sounds like it has not been helpful. With swelling behind the ears, and your pain when you open your mouth, the inflammation sounds severe. You need to see your doctor or an Ear. Nose. Throat specialist! ...Read more
Ear pain/pressure/dizzy x 5weeks. Ent gave ear drops (eardrums slight inflamed)/abx. No relief. Suggestions? Thanks
Try decongestant: Your symptoms may be due to eustachian tube dysfunction, where the tubes that connect the middle ear to the back of the throat are blocked so pressure builds up in the middle ear. Decongestants like sudafed can help relieve the symptoms (as long as there is no reason you can't take decongestants such as uncontrolled high blood pressure). ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Not a good idea!: Will not help a mid ear infection-need an oral antibiotic. May cause significant burning in an ear canal (outer ear) infection. Severe burning if you have hole in eardrum with infection. Only ok, mixed with white vinegar, for ear canal drying/cleaning, if no canal inflammation & no eardrum perforation. See an otology/ent md for treatment. ...Read more
