Ear Drainage In Children With Tubes
Yes: In my experience the tubes drop the recurrence rate considerably but do not eliminate the possibility. Most see declines from 5-6 or more per year to a couple. Thease may occur with or without a mucous plug forming in the tube. Some ear infections with draining tubes can be treated with drops& avoid the problems of oral meds. Canal infections may also occur. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Chronic blocked eustachian tube in adults-my husband has had an implant in the art drum to try to drain the middle ear but this has blocked up again?
No: Ear wax would not affect Eustachian tube function in either ear. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. I have bilat ear tubes. The right ear tube is clogged. Can this be done with ear drops? Instead of replacing the tube?
Maybe: An ENT doc can also sometimes push a tiny probe through the tube opening to remove the clog. Adults that are willing to sit still for the procedure find this a simple process, many kids will cooperate for it also. ...Read more

Can a hole in the ear drum cause frequent ear infections? Ear was fine till ruptured and had 4-5 infections in 6mnths in same ear as hole
Age matters : I'm a pediatrician, but hope i can still give you helpful advice. In babies and children, we treat ear infex based on the degree of illness and/or discomfort with the infex. Fluid can be present behind the eardrum with an acute ear infection. If it does not resolve and/or it's adversely affecting one's hearing, we are quicker to act on that. See an ENT (ear/nose/throat) specialist. ...Read more
If you are born with chronic middle ear disease with cartilage growing behind your ear drum can that cause u to be born deaf in that ear?
Frequent otitis as a child, no tubes placed. Been experiencing intermittent bilateral crackling in ears. Please help?
I have chronic congestion and feeling of nasal obstruction high in Nasopharangeal area around Eustachian tubes. Adenoid problems or hypertrophic?
Not likely: It is virtually impossible to demonstrate fluid in the eustachian tube clinically or even radiologically. Eustachian tube obstruction leads to negative pressure in the middle ear and eventually fluid in the middle ear space. If the ear drum on inspection is considered to be normal, then it is highly unlikely to have eustachian tube obstruction. ...Read more
Son has ear tubes. Fluid draining from one ear. Has sinus drainage too. Take him to doc bc of ear drainage? Worried it's ear infection.
I have middle ear fluid, chronic tinnitus, hearing difficulties, ear fullness and severe balance issues. Would myringotomy tubes or hearing aids help?
Yes: In children, persistent fluid in the middle ear can resolve at any time after an infection; however, the longer it persists, the lower the odds that it will resolve on its own. Particularly if the child has recurrent infections, or shows signs of hearing loss, tubes may be necessary. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Resolved painful swelling of outer ear canal (from swimming) w drops, oral antibi & steroids, still have fluid in middle ear. Can decongestants help?
Slowly: Decongestants are appropriate, alone or with new generation antihistamines. However, nothing helps dramatically and it can take some time to fully recover. Smoking is a direct negative factor by irritating the throat opening of eustachian tube. Increased fluids are also appropriate. There are adults, very infrequently, with tubes when problem persists with nothing helping. ...Read more

Almost year around post nasal drip that reflects in alternating ear discomfort with external wet ears. facial, chest and behind ear seborheic dermatit?
See your Family Doc: It sounds to me like you have several issues going on at same time. Post-nasal drip could be from allergies which could lead to ear discomfort b/c Eustachian tube dysfunction. OTC antihistamines can often help. Seborrheic dermatitis is a separate condition (http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/seborrheic-dermatitis/basics/definition/con-20031872) as are your wet ears: otorrhea? infection? ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
2 yrs. Tubes six months ago suspect ear infection started ear drops today ear drainage and external ear is looking very bruised..Is this from infectn?
I hope it's not bad,: But - it is not nothing. Even non-bloody ear drainage might be worth checking out, so "bloody" ear drainage sounds worthy of attention. You don't mention pain, fever or anything else, so perhaps it is not a big problem. Definitely do have a medical professional look at it and treat it. Hearing is a good thing to be able to do. CSF?: When i hear clear fluid from the ear, i worry about spinal fluid leaking through a hole in one's eardrum. If that is the case, this needs to be fixed surgically. Hi I have 99.6 degree fever brown ear drainage and bad ear pain is this swimmer’s ear infection or middle ear infection ?
Hard to say: The temperature you cite is not much of one, and swimmers ear is usually fever free. However you could have a middle ear infection that has perforated the ear drum and drained without fever. Pain on moving the ear loge is usually more prominent in a swimmers ear. The only way to know for sure is an exam. ...Read more
Small hole in my ear. Otitis Media. Prescribed Ciprpflaxin. No ear drainage but feel fullness and off balance for week. Can i take this medicine?
What if ear drainage doesn't stop with 2 to 3 days for a ruptured ear drum while on amoxicillin. Should i be concerned? Or just let it take its time.
You need ear drops: An ear perforation with drainage needs to be treated with ear drops. Amoxicillin by itself probably won't do it. Contact your doctor for a prescription. I like ciprodex, however, this can be very expensive. A combination of generic Ciprofloxacin eye drops and Dexamethasone eye drops can also work well. ...Read more

How long does ear drainage last for a ruptured ear drum? Have 28 pills of amoxicillin from doctor, should it go away after i finish them?
Probably: A middle ear infection that burst your ear drum and is draining may be a more aggressive infection. Take the Amoxicillin as prescribed. Your drainage should significantly improve in 2 to 3 days. In that case take all of the pills as recommended. If not improving in a few days call the doctor, you may need something stronger. Call even sooner if you get a stiff neck or bad headache. ...Read more
