Doctor insights on:
Nobody knows: There are zero studies of e-cigs, and nobody knows what they will do, even with no nicotine. Nicotine is not the cause of cancer anyway - it is the complex hydrocarbons (tars) in the smoke. It is likely that e-cigs will prove safer than smoked cigarettes, but again, nobody really knows. The propellant in these gadgets is propylene glycol, and nobody knows what inhaling them, or the oils, will do. ...Read more

E-liquid etc.: There are different brands and ingredients in the liquids used in electronic cigarettes. If it contains nicotine, which many do, there is still potential risk. Personally i would not want to inhale any of these materials. See the following for some basic information. Research your particular brand but take whatever they say with a grain of salt. http://www.v2cigs.com/blog/2013/09/whats-in-your-e-. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I am informed e-liquid without pg or nicotine basically just has glycerin(vg), water, and tobacco flavoring, but how do I get the ratios right?
Beats me: and not sure why you would think a doctor would have the answer. The formulae to electronic cigarettes, like those of regular cigarettes, are considered "trade secrets" and are not published. You might write the company and see what they have to say, but I don't think they are going to give away secrets that allow people to not buy their products. How about just NOT smoking altogether? ...Read more
I have a swollen knee after playing basketball. But there is no pain whatsoever. It just feels liquidy (i.e: liquid is surrounding my knee and kneecap?
Effusion: You're describing a knee "effusion" or collection of fluid surrounding the knee joint. Effusions are the body's response to injury. Since you have no pain, the injury is probably minor. Best to rest it, elevate it and apply ice a few times a day for about 3 days. Once the swelling goes down, you can resume normal activities, but do so gradually. OTC Ibuprofen might help also. Best wishes. ...Read more
I am trying to stop smoking, using a e liquid vapor pen, one that contains 0 nicotine mg, but i am a bit concerned can i still get cancer from the pen?
Reframe/Rethink: I'd encourage you to reframe/focus on something else...you are nicotine free! That's a HUGE accomplishment, celebrate. Your next step will be on replacing the vapor pen with another activity. Something that will simulate the pen, (i.e. deep breathing, holding something in your hand, sugar free gum to stimulate the senses in your mouth). Get creative. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I take many tablets each day. Is it possible that there is a reaction between them that causes me to not lose weight (e.g. liquid diet (<700 cal/day)?
Not likely: While there can always be some sort of interaction, it isn't likely to lead to such a significant metabolic effect that you wouldn't lose weight with the extreme caloric restriction you describe. If you are not losing weight on a 700 kcal/day diet, something is amiss with your calorie counting. At 700 kcal/day you should be losing weight, even if you didn't move one bit during the day. ...Read more

Normal healing: When tissue is damaged , the vessels leak fluid which helps to bathe the tissue, and helps to immobilize it for faster healing. The fluid also has some anti-infective properties.
