Fruits and vegetables to avoid if you have a high alk phos?

Fruits and vegetables to avoid if you have a high alk phos?

Don't Rx a number: Look for the reason the alk phos is high. Many folks with certain blood types shoot the alk phos up every time they eat. Pregnancy, mild paget's, a healing fracture, or cholestasis due to a medication are all famous for raising it -- your physician knows when (and whether) to work it up. 99% of what you read about "foods to eat/avoid for this/that" is hokum. Could you tell me what fruits should be avoided when having acid reflux?

Could you tell me what fruits should be avoided when having acid reflux?

Citrus & Tomatoes: Contrary to popular belief, tomatoes are a fruit, not a vegetable. Citrus and tomatoes lower the tightness of the top of the stomach, and allow more acid to go up into the esophagus. Other foods to avoid include too much food (eat small meals), fatty foods, alcohol, chocolate, peppermint. Make sure you're taking a powerful acid blocker like prevacid/prilosec to avoid esophagus damage. Luck! Read more

Why do doctors say to feed real fruit and avoid juices? I have kids and cannot deal with the mess.

Why do doctors say to feed real fruit and avoid juices? I have kids and cannot deal with the mess.

Sugar water: Juices are one of the most promoted processed foods. They are little more than flavored sugar water that is promoted to be healthy so you don't feel as bad as you would giving them a coke.I value them as equal to colas. Kids can be taught to clean up their own mess. Read more

I know I need to cut out sugar. That's going to be hard because I love sweets. Which fruits should I avoid?

I know I need to cut out sugar. That's going to be hard because I love sweets. Which fruits should I avoid?

Here's an idea...: Most of the "pop" claims you hear about "carbohydrates / sugars" aren't evidence-based. People get fat on snack food and candy because they overeat these. I don't think you'll get overweight eating apples, oranges, grapes or whatever fruits you really enjoy. You'll savor them & get much more enjoyment with a tiny fraction of the calories. Read more

I have hypertension. I am doing sport and I'm trying to eat more fruits and vegetables. Which kind of food should I prefer and which one to avoid?

Sensible: Fruits and vegetables are good. Include fish and limit red meat. I know that in Rwanda, potato may be popular (french fries) however I would limit this as well. Do not use alcohol regularly, beer or whiskey. In general, it sounds like you're on the right track! I would avoid fried and greasy foods and be attentive to the preparation of your food. Good luck! Is there a certain number of fruits I should eat every day to avoid colon cancer?

Is there a certain number of fruits I should eat every day to avoid colon cancer?

Not exactly: Fruits are very healthy and contain multiple vitamins and minerals. They are also a good source of dietary fiber. A diet high in fiber (usda recommends 25 grams a day for women and 38 grams a day for men) may reduce the risk of colon cancer, but this has not been proven in any population studies. Fruits and fiber do decrease risk of diverticular disease, hemorrhoids and heart disease. Read more

I just heard a group of office staff in a law office talk about "if eating fruits during illness should be avoided? "

Depends: If you have diarrhea or vomiting or abdominal pain, fruits and veggies with lots of Vitamin C should be avoided, but other than that, there is generally no reason to avoid fruits when sick. Thank goodness there is one person (you) in that office who has the good sense to get expert advice! Where & why did this subject come up? Was there a specific illness or fruit being discussed? If so, tell us. Read more

No dietary changes.: There is no need for eliminating fruit from your diet or for changing what you're eating. What you do need is to follow the instructions on the antibiotic regimen that your doctor put you on for the H pylori. If you do, it is very likely that you'll be able to eliminate it. Good luck.
