Dyed My Hair Got An Allergic Reaction And Bumps Have Spread To My Neck
Allergies occur when your immune system is triggered by envirionmental factors it should ignore--for example, pollen in the air, or dander on a cat or dog--and creates cells to fight against them. An allergic reaction typically causes itching, congestion, or drainage, and ...Read more
I'm a hairdresser. Can the odor from hair dye cause an allergic reaction or the throat to swell/close?
Yes, tho...: ..it techically isn't an allergy. Could be hypersensitivity to the odor of the aerosol which can actually trigger tightness in upper airways such as laryngospasm or paradoxical vocal cord movement. Sensation usually triggers coughs but highly distressing airway spasm may develop. Sipping water and exiting area help. Can't rule out asthma so I'd see an airway specialist: allergist/ent/or pulmonary. ...Read more

Not enough info: We need to get a description of what reactions your sister has that you think she might have an allergic reaction. Hi I got treated at my ER last night for allergic reaction to hair dye and it's comes back today what should I do?
Allergic Reaction: I'm not sure what your treatment entailed last night. Hopefully, they gave you instructions for continued treatment. If they did not, then you need to return for care either to your regular physician, an urgent care or to the ER if you are having difficulty breathing, swallowing or closing up of your throat. If you just have a rash then I would take antihistamines until you can be seen. ...Read more

Contact dermatitis: You must be very frustrated and I'll bet the itching is unbearable! I think you need to continue treatment to manage symptoms until this reaction works it's way out of your system. Are/were you using oral glucocorticosteroids (Prednisone, Medrol) as well as massaging a topical steroid lotion in the scalp? There may also be a superimposed infection that needs to be treated. You'll get better. ...Read more
24-96 hours: Contact reactions to hair dye are similar to that of poison ivy although the distribution is usually limited to the scalp, neck, shoulders and sometimes upper chest. It falls under the category of a type IV hypersensitivity reaction. This is different than a reaction to pollen or pets which cause immediate symptoms ( minutes to a few hours) called a type I reaction. It appears in 24-96 hours. ...Read more

Hair dye allergy: You should see an md to see whether you had an irritant or allergic reaction and if allergic you should have patch testing to determine which chemical is causing the reaction. Am having an allergic reaction to laser.I have a very sensitive skin, almost any way to remove hair is hard. Now my skin is full of rash bumps what i do?
Not allergic: Unless you are allergic to the gel or topical anesthetic used , the bumps are more likely inflammatory response to the laser injury. In hair removal, the intent is to destroy the hair follicles without harming the skin but this is difficult in dark skin people. Try some topical cortisone cream. Sometimes using a bleaching cream on the target prior to treatment may reduce the skin injury. ...Read more

How can I tell if i get anaphylaxis or allergic reaction from tattoo or hair dye if i'm on zyrtec (cetirizine) chronically? Also on propranolol.
It might not: It is unlikely that you only have bumps in the back of your neck but not in your scalp or elsewhere if you are allergic to the shampoo that you are using. A skin rash needs to be seen to know what it is. You should come see a local physician to be evaluated if that rash bothers you. ...Read more

Large painful bite looking bump on side of neck, allergic reaction to bandaid covering it, now rash around neck, chest, legs, and arms. Very itchy!
Mgt suggestions: From your description, the area on the side of the neck may be an insect bite, and the total body rash part of an allergic reaction.Exam the neck area for any bite marks, stingers. I would suggest not attempting to remove the stinger. Applying Hydrocortisone and Calamine in combination with an antihistamine may provide relief. I agree that if you have any breathing problems, proceed to the ED. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
