Possible stress?: When you say that your doctors do not see anything does that mean they have done endoscopies for the stomach and do not see ulcers? Have they done barium swallow's and not seen anything abnormal in the esophagus or elsewhere in the G.I. tract? Is there are no hiatal hernia on imaging exams or anything else? Have you been extremely stressed out or nervous about a particular thing recently? ...Read more

Sharp, stabbing: What you are describing is neuropathic pain, the first thing that comes to mind when a patient describes this type of pain on the right of the ribs depending on how the pain distribution spreads out is shingles. I would follow up closely with your doctor about getting treatment as soon as possible assuming your doctor agrees with the diagnosis. Kind of normal: It is kind of normal to have these feeling after a hernia repair. Did you have the surgery as open procedure, or laparoscopic.? Make sure that you follow your surgeon instructions. Apply heat pad and take more ibuprofen than narcotic, and make sure that your bowels are soft and you are going every day. No short answer: A number of possibillities, if he does much lifting he may be straining the muscles. He may have a prostate infection (that's often back pain though). He could have diverticulosis (pockets in the intestine) and they may get obstructed and/or infected at times(more often left side).
