Woke up yesterday w a dull constant ache in my back. Middle to left side under ribs. Not very painful but hurts. Pain changes w movem sometimes sharp?
Rib cage: Location of pain middle to left side rib is above kidney location. Make sure you have no shingle rash. Have cxr, rib cage xr , mid thoracic and also kub x-ray. That will you give you an idea. It can be simple musculoskeletal pain but it is only ruled in when other serious heart and lung conditions are ruled out. Pain on the lower to middle right of my back, that wakes me up in the nights feels like a dull ache or punch like pain, although it's intermittent pain that seems to be worse at night.
Get checked.: I'm always more concerned about pain that wakes us up at night. If it's above your belt line, I'd wonder about gall bladder symptoms. Gall stones can sometimes give you right sided pain in the armpit, the shoulder or the scapula. When I tilt my head down, pain shoots straight down my neck to middle of my back. Mainly in between my shoulder blades. Dull, aching pain continues then for about 15 minutes.
