Senna - Glycerin: Both glycerin and senna laxatives are rather safe, but they do work in different ways. Senna is considered a stimulant laxative and glycerin is a lubricant. Does miralax (polyethylene glycol) work with medication constipation?

Dose-dependent: The more MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) you take the faster it works. As a once over-the-counter dosed laxative you may not see results for 3-4 days, but as a multi-dosed colonoscopy preparation (when used under doctor's advice) expect laxation within hours. I've been constipated for 3-4l days as a result of hemorrhoids. I took some dulcolax but am still in severe pain with some bleeding.

Hydrate: Although you can probably improve bowel function simply by hydration you may want to try another over-the-counter remedy such as miralax (polyethylene glycol) that will draw fluid into the bowel and allow for normal function if somewhat soft or even loose bowels- people undergoing colonoscopy drink a gallon to clear bowels. You can always use an enema with relative safety to provide direct hydration to the lower colon. ...Read more

Impacted: I think you've done all you can to relieve what may be a fecal impaction. The abdominal distension suggests partial intestinal obstruction as you are able to pass gas. I would expect some abdominal cramping. A rectal examination is needed and if you are impacted, manual disimpaction is required and is performed by the physician or a nurse under the physicians direction. Either way, get checked. ...Read more

Not harmful but why?: Why would you take dulcolax once a week and why on sunday? Is it ok to take 5 Dulcolax tablets, 2-1 tablet every couple of hours per day ?

Um, way noooo.: It's a bowel stimulant. You don't want your gut to spasm. Will be painful. If you are that constipated, attack it from a different angle: Aggressive hydration 64oz or 1.9L water per 24 hours, fiber (with water or can be constipating) fruits, veggies, lentils, whole grains, low fat yogurt with live active cultures. If trying to flush everything out (like for weight loss) same goes. Plus enemas. ...Read more
