Some side effects are abdominal pain/bloating, diarrhea, cramping, gas, rash. High doses particularly in elderly can cause excessive diarrhea/ stool frequency which may result in dehydration. No: milk of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) is not appreciably absorbed and works mostly in the intestines to increase fluid intake into the bowel to promote a bowel movement. If taken in excess it can cause fluid loss and dehydration, which could effect your other meds.
