Dry Skin And Severe Hair Loss What Causes It Even In Spring
Seborrhea: If this is your scalp we are talking about, you have two separate problems. Dryness of the scalp is called seborrheic dermatitis, which is controllable with medicated shampoos & lotions. Seborrhea does not cause hair loss, but lots of other things do. You will need to see a dermatologist and get a good exam & workup to determine the cause. ...Read more
Hair loss, otherwise known as alopecia, can be caused by different reasons, including damage to the hair shaft or follicles or fungal infections. There are two main types of alopecia. Alopecia areata occurs when the body's immune system attacks hair follicles and causes hair to fall out. Androgenetic (or androgenic) alopecia, on the other hand, is an inherited form of hair loss. With alopecia areata, hair can fall out in patches all over the body. With androgenetic alopecia, hair on the head first thins and then falls out. In men, this is called male pattern hair loss; in women, it is called ...Read more

Thyroid removed level at. 406 now on meds have a lot symptoms of low thyroid, hair loss and breakage dry skin constipated doc says fine y I feel bad?
Not sure.: Could be that you are underdosed in your thyroid replacement hormone. I am not sure if 0.406 is your current TSH or not. If it is, it is hard to explain. If this doesn't clear up in a short while you might consider repeating your TSH and using a small dose of t3 (liothyronine). ...Read more

Could be due to PTU (propylthiouracil): The most common side effects are related to the skin and include rash, itching, hives, abnormal hair loss, and skin pigmentation. A decrease of white blood cells in the blood (agranulocytosis) may occur. Symptoms and signs of agranulocytosis include infectious lesions of the throat, the gastrointestinal tract, and skin with an overall feeling of illness and fever. Tsh, 3rd generation is 1.05. I have had symptoms like being cold, unable to lose weight and very bad depression also dry skin and thinning hair.?
See your doctor.: You might want to see your doctor for a more thorough evaluation. It can be a form of hypothyroid disease due to low TSH which might be from a pituitary disorder. You might need some tests to be sure you don't have a broader issue, at least a full thyroid panel. Your TSH is in the low normal, but you have symptoms of low thyroid hormone production. So see your doctor for a work-up. Good luck! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My thyroid is out if wack, I have fatigue, dry skin, nail dents, thinning hair etc., blood test came back normal. Can further tests be done?
TSH 1.38 UIU/ML, Free T4 1.35 NG/DL. Are these normal levels? I lost 15lbs in 6 weeks, thinning hair, low body temp, muscle aches, dry skin.
It appears: That mIU/L and uIU/mL are interchangeable units. Most labs report normal TSH as 0.4-4.5 as normal, so your value appears to be in the low normal range. Your free T4 also seems to be normal (normal=0.8-2.7 ng/dL in most labs). Your symptoms are not consistent for either hyper OR hypothyroidism, but seem to be a combination, especially the weight loss. Continue working with your doc for diagnosis/Rx ...Read more

Could a hit on the head cause hair loss/damage, and if so, would it be one spot or spread around?
Hair loss: An injury to the head per se will not cause hair loss unless the hair follicles are damaged such as through a cut or a "rip" of the scalp. In those cases, it would be at the site of injury. If you have significant hair loss, I recommend seeing a dermatologist or rheumatologist. ...Read more
