Dry Heaving Cough
Diagnose first....: Before any cough can be treated, the cause of the cough must be diagnosed. Common causes of cough include acute bronchitis, bronchospasm from any etiology, post-nasal drip, gerd, etc. All of these causes have entirely different treatments and a cough can be due to more than one condition. Therefore, see your doctor so your cough can be diagnosed and then treated.
The cough reflex is a protective mechanism that uses muscles in your throat and chest to expel mucous and saliva that may contain pathogens that would otherwise possibly be inhaled via aerosol or to expel pathogens infecting the throat and respiratory system. Cough benefits the host by reducing load and benefits the pathogen which may then spread via aerosol. ...Read more
Had brutal cold lasted 8 days;have deep dry heaving cough 4 2wks;was on cephalexin 4 toenail op; rattling in chest when I exhale deeply. What's wrong?
Possibilities...: You may have bronchitis as a complication of your recent cold. Acute bronchitis is an infection of the airways and, if there is no significant fever, it is likely of viral origin so antibiotics will be ineffective. Another possibility is you may have developed bronchospasm from inflammation in the airways caused by coughing. See your doctor so the correct diagnosis can be made and treatment given.See 1 more doctor answer
Flu-like symptoms dry heaving, cough, shaking, etc. Went to doc, couldn't say what it is, she has been in a cabin with mice and mice feces thisweekend?
Another doc: I would recommend not being in a cabin with mice and mice feces. If you doc had no idea what problem was, I'd suggest another MD evaluation.
Awoke feeling like throwing up. Tried, but couldn't-Was dry heaving/coughing up small bits of blood. Blew nose-reddish color. Have Bad GERD. Thoughts?
GERD//red emesis: Limited information. Would seek medical attention today. It could be some irritation from the acid of GERD as it refluxes upward with sleep into the nasopharynx, or a major GI bleed, which causes nausea when the stomach fills with blood. Seek medical attention today as soon as possible.
What is causing this horrible cough? It is a dry, heaving hard cough, along with chest painLaying down & mouth breathing seems to cause it to worsen.
Shortness of breath: Dry cough and shortness of breath at your age group can be a sign of asthma as it is usually diagnosed in the 20's and 30's year old. Difficulty breathing and chest pain can also be due to heart diseases. I would recommend you see a local physician soon. If shortness of breath is severe, please go to the nearest ER.
Cough accompanied by buzzing airways while inhaling and exhaling, and also dry heaving-- fans/cold air trigger too, for 4 months. What could this be?
I have had a dry cough for 2 months it is very dry and making me heave very loudly no sputum or vomit comes just dry heaving. What could this be? I have had a chest x ray and bloods tested which was given the all clear. I've taken omprezole however did not
Could be GERD: The acronym we use is GERD, Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease. It is gastric acid from your stomach getting up and out into your esophagus. While omprezole is a good medication you might need another drug, It is also imperative that you should not lie down until two hours after eating and you should eat slowly, chew your food well and keep in frequent touch with your gastroenterologist.See 1 more doctor answer
5 Month Cough no asthma/allergies (went to specialist) gets worse when talking, makes me dry heave when having a coughing fit. Any Ideas?
Sounds like asthma: And cough spells could be precipitated by a multitude of triggers or co morbidities, such as chronic sinus infection, uppper respiratory tract chronic inflammation, airway hyper-responsiveness or GERD, so you need to see an allergist/immunologist, check aaaai. Org or acaai. Org for an allergist in your area, goodluck
My daughter (11) has been nauseated for days, now she keeps coughing like she is going to vomit and cannot stop, only dry heaving, severe stomach cram?
Seek help: Sorry to hear her condition not improving. I strongly suggest you find her symptoms further if this is in passing due to a viral etiology or something more serious with your primary or pediatrician.
I've been coughing for over a week. It started out dry and now has turned into heaving, coughing up mucus, and severe chest pain. Should I see a doc?
Could be infection.: You should see a doctor, or perhaps consult with one of us here on HealthTap. You may have an infection.
Dry heaving: If dry heaving is getting worse I strongly suggest you have someone take you to the nearest Emergency. Could be a minor issue or something worse but that is unlikely. Hope all goes well -please let me know.
Many causes: Dry heaving has many causes, but usually due to irritation of the stomach or upper small intestine-like alcohol, ulcers or infection, pancreatitis or gall bladder trouble. If there is any associated chest or arm pain, the heart or lungs can be the source- in which case you need to be seen right away
Is dry heaving is considered as dangerous problem? If so, what is the long term effect on dry heaving?
Yes: Heaving, with or without vomitus coming out of one's mouth, creates high pressures where the stomach meets the esophagus (the tube up to the throat). With heaving, as with vomiting, one can create tears and bleeding where the stomach meets the esophagus. So, it's best to avoid heaving.
I been dry heaving at night only at night for 2-3 weeks now ill do it for hours what would make me do this?
Dry heaving: Lots of things can cause nausea and dry heaving - infection like a stomach bug, electrolyte disorders, pregnancy, neurological problems. Your frequency of symptoms is pretty concerning, and really warrants a good history and physical exam. This may have nothing to do with the stomach, so it's really important to have a good workup. Best of luck.
Advise seeing an MD: "Dry heaving", when seen in the ER can be due to many causes, including any condition or medication which makes the person extremely nauseous (alcohol/drug intoxication, UTI, stomach virus, gallbladder/pancreatic disease, heart attack), or sometimes may be caused by a foreign body stuck in the esophagus. So quick answer is that usually a cause needs to be pursued unless it is obvious.
What causes nausea?: Nausea/vomiting may be gi-related (food poisoning, peptic disease, gastroparesis, due to biliary & pancreatic disease, gas/bloat syndrome, small bowel problems. Consider "central" causes: motion sickness, vertigo, migraine headache, brain problems (some very serious). Also, rule out infection (? Urinary tract), medication side effects, pregnancy, & even reaction to stress. See your doctor please.
Raw foods: Sometimes we see that. Are you allergic to anything on the new diet? If not, try it again in a week for just a few days and see if you can ease into it.
My neck is real sensitive and I am constantly gagging or dry heaving even when I have shirts or jewelry on, what is causing this?
