MAYBE: If you are on medications check with your own physician about using alcohol. Lexapro (escitalopram) is an antidepressant and Klonopin is for anxiety. Alcohol is a depressant and is cross tolerant with Klonopin so it is additive in other words. Best To Avoid: Celexa (citalopram) is an antidepressant and alcohol is a depressant. Common sense tells us to avoid alcohol while treating depression, otherwise one agent will cancel the other. Not recommended: It is not recommended to drink alcohol when taking medications, including Elavil/amitriptyline. The liver is responsible for metabolizing both alcohol and medications, adding additional burden especially in those with medical problems.
